Step #1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Step #2 Lightly grease baking sheets.
Step #3 Cream the shortening with the sugar.
Step #4 Blend in the eggs, milk & vanilla.
Step #5 Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda & salt.
Step #6 Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture & mix well.
Step #7 Stir in the sliced pecans, sliced dates & 1/3 c maraschino cherries.
Step #8 Shape tspful sized chunks of dough into balls.
Step #9 Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes.
Step #10 Place balls on the prepared baking sheets & top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
Step #11 Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 12 mins.
Step #12 Let cool completely before storing in airtight containers.
