Went to the nursery!
We went to the nursery this weekend and picked up our tomato and pepper plants. They are sitting in my bay window right now, since it will still be about a week or so before we can plant them. We got three different kinds of tomatoes, 2 heirloom, an early girl, and a better boy. We are going to be sharing with some friends, since we sure don't need 16 tomato plants in our garden. We also got green, red, and orange pepper plants. I'm getting excited! I need to get tomato cages now, or figure out how else we are going to support them.

My husband decided he's going to try grow grapes too. He picked up a couple of bare root concords and reliance grapes. He spent a good part of the weekend putting up a couple of trellis for them. We got grapes from a neighbor last year and made some of the best jelly ever out of them. Hopefully in a few years we can make jelly from our own. (I'll do the canning, but the grape growing is all his!!)

Wow, 16 tomato plants! You can share with the whole block. Have you checked out the novel being written on the other gardening group about the grape growing experience? I will be excited to hear how it goes for you. I actually just let my Tomatoes grow out on the ground last year. I was feeling lazy. It turned out pretty well. Only a few went bad. Someone mentioned too that you can put a bed of straw under them to keep them off the ground.

I have looked at the grape thread. I think he's a bit more of a master gardener than we'll ever be! It's great that he's documenting it for others though!

I think we'll end up caging the tomatoes. Our dog LOVES tomatoes, so growing them on the ground just wouldn't work too well!!

Come on now susan, your dog needs his veggies too, don't deprive him of easy free produce! (: Just kiddin, that makes me laugh that your dog likes tomatoes.

RE: Went to the nursery!
He will readily do any of the 2 tricks he knows for a piece of tomato!

I got my rhubarb plants in the mail today. The weather is cool and rainy today, but my husband said he'd brave the weather plant them for me tonight!

What a guy! I have a great rhubarb muffin recipe that I got from my MIL. I think I posted it on here. They are yummy and freeze well too!
