I was using the underscore and asterisk keys.

Apparently I hit the control key instead of the shift key while using the underscore key. That combination reduces the font size. To reverse it, use the control key with the plus key. Don't have to use the shift key for either conversion. PHEW!!!!!!!!! All is back to normal.
