Try ringing the food bowl with salt. Salt will make the slugs dissolve very very quickly with a lot of bubbling and carrying on. I don't think the slugs will even try to cross the salt ring so you will be saving them for whatever benefit the slugs do do and I don't think the cat will eat too much of the salt unless you are not seasoning his food.

Ber traps will wash out with heavy rain. I normally apply a ring of Datamatious earth and or wood ash from the fireplace as a deterrent. Reapplying after every storm.
