Fab Friday
As some of you know, I've been looking forward to this weekend for months...Got up this morning,, sitting here having my coffee and go to check my e mail and guess what...The Rob Thomas oncert I have had tickets for since August has been postponed...This is such a disappointment considering that's the reason we were going there to begin with....Gonna go anyway because our hotel room is already booked with no refund due to the great rate I got...I guess I'm gonna have to tough it out and have a weekend of great food, gambling, shopping and relaxing without Rob Thomas...LOL

Have a great weekend!!!!

RE: Fab Friday
Sorry to hear that Wynne but know you will have fun anyway. Have a great time!!

RE: Fab Friday
Don't feel like cooking tonight so I am having my favorite fried chicken TV dinner and Phil is doing fish and sides on the grill for him. Easy, peasey.

By the way,where is JJM??

RE: Fab Friday
Thats too bad wynne! maybe you will win some money to pay for the Rob Thomas weekend.
Haven't decided whats for dinner yet.

RE: Fab Friday
Oh, I'm so sorry that Rob was cancelled. What a disappointment. I do believe you will still have a good time, my friend.

And Fred won't be home til next week, sorry for the confusion. He is still too weak and on too many meds to be released immediately. He is scared about coming home. They are aiming for the 12th.

Points, I'll hide the tools, promise. :-)

Probably breakfast for me again this evening, simple to do. Although Liv brought home some wonderful mac and cheese, with jalapeno, bacon, roasted peppers last night from work and it smelled so good, I might play mad scientist and see if I can replicate the recipe. But I'd have to shop to do that and I have so many chores to do, shopping isn't one of them.

RE: Fab Friday
OH Wynne...I'm so sorry! I know you will have a great time, though!

RE: Fab Friday
Wynne, have a fantastic weekend! Just getting away will be good for the body and soul!
Pleclare, what is your favorite TV dinner?
Tina, I thought Fred wouldn't be home until next weekend...only because of the Marine Corp Ball. Had a lot of fun at those back in the day but thankful I don't have to go anymore. I am always shocked at just how young the youngest Marine is at the cake cutting. They usually look like they just got into pull-ups to me! I must be getting old!
I need some help. Today is my neighbors birthday, her favorite cake is Waldorf Astoria, which to me is a Red Velvet, possibly the frosting is different...not cream cheese? Anyway, I don't feel like making one from scratch......how can I dress up the cake mix and pull off a great cake?
As for dinner tonight, I have been asking for suggestions but with no luck. I should just put empty plates out and tell them that is what they all asked for...NOTHING!
Make it a great one.

RE: Fab Friday
I love Hungry Man Fried Chicke! Just wish tere was more potato and less brownie. LOL!
M2 if you are not getting suggestios, tell them to fen for themselves.....

RE: Fab Friday
I'm so depressed at the grocery store prices this morning. Went to the farmers market to buy a load of tomatoes to make some more tomato jam and put some in the deep freeze. Farmers market had only one vendor with tomatoes at a price that belongs in the super market.

Carried my $40 to the real shopping store and at the check out counter had to put back $15 worth of goods so I could cover the cost. Had four plastic baggies of stuff that were nowhere full. I'm tapped and still don't have any 'maters.

Fab Friday
Points - wish you were here. I had 4 tomato plants at work and just pulled them up this week as they were getting pretty ugly looking. I filled 2 grocery bags full of tomatoes that were ripe and another 1/2 bag of green ones. Everyone at work is "tomatoed out" - doesn't want anymore. So I will take them home and make more sauce, salsa and dried tomatoes. And then fried green tomatoes - yum!
Hubby is taking me out to dinner - yea! Not sure what he wants - usually Mexican food.
Hope everyone is feeling better and Wynne have a great time.

RE: Fab Friday
Food prices are terrible Points!

RE: Fab Friday
Food prices are terrible Points!

RE: Fab Friday
Probably wants the same thing he wanted when he was dating and dining you. : )

Use the smaller green tomatoes to make pickled green tomatoes. There is a nice recipe on Pickyourown.org. I started to make it once but found my green tomatoes were too large.

RE: Fab Friday
When chicken prices get higher than steak prices, inflation is on the way. Look at your last post pleclare. Even your posts have doubled up.

RE: Fab Friday
I keep hearing on the news that the CPI (consumer price index) is hardly budging. By my pocketbook I think it is up at least 20%.

Fab Friday
Thanks Points for the tip on the green tomatoes. Yes mine are on the smallish size = 1-/2 to 3". Should work perfect!
Food prices here in Pacific Northwest are extremely high. Have to be really inventive to make your food dollars s-t-r-e-t-c-h! Luckily it is only the two of us so I can make 4 meals out of one chicken. Ground beef is almost $5 a lb here. What's the deal????

RE: Fab Friday
I hate that points. I try to go in with a plan and not go over my budget, I have been relying on my credit cards way too much. I have some a deal going through next week so I can pay it back. I just got a call to do a survey on razers for $75 bucks Mondfay so that will be a little extra & my friend said she might have some seasonal sales work for me at Macy's and the money is good. Hopefully that pans out

I noticed that ground beef prices are really high around here as well. i have been using ground turkey instead, which for some reason has been cheaper the last couple of months.
it's crazy they raised the prices when the price of fuel went up to $4.00 a gallon because they had to cover the costs, Well I don't know about where you are the price is down to $2.50 a gallon and I never saw the prices go back down

RE: Fab Friday
I have seen our prices go back down, especially on dairy. We are buying our preferred Mayfield dairy products again, instead of the store brand. I buy the bags of individually frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts. They are sooo much cheaper than at the meat counter, and the quality, taste is exactly the same. Best thing is, you can pull one or two of them out to thaw, or thaw the entire bag. I always by the 7% lean ground beef, unless I'm doing burgers, and it's more anyway...I have just learned where I can and can't shop for it.

Sorry abuot your shopping experience today, Points. That's discouraging!

Fab Friday
Laurie - ground turkey is $6 + lb here and gas is $2.75 a gallon. I guess most products are made in the midwest so trucking them to the Northwest is more expensive - I don't know - just a guess ;(.
All I know is my poor wallet is threadbare. Thought my husband would get his annual increase on Social Security - that isn't happening so everything goes up and no more money to pay for it. Guess I better look for part time job.

RE: Fab Friday
The ground turkey here is $2.99 a lb for the 93% lean.
We have been lucky because my husbands work isn't laying anyone off but no raises this year & our health care insurance is going up but not too bad.
good luck trying to find a part time job.

RE: Fab Friday
Prepping the drip irrigation lines to the vineyard for freezing weather. Shuttled 3 miles up the road to check a roadside veggie stand for tomatoes. Had them at $1.50/lb. That's $0.50/lb more than what I wanted but the cheapest found. Bought $10 of tomatoes. Now on to the task of prepping the tomatoes for some delicious tomato jam. Maybe I'll do a loaf of bread first.

RE: Fab Friday
I buy more ground turkey than beef these days. Our health insurance is going up the first of the year also.

By the way,you won't see me on here duing the week while I am at work. The law was laid down today. Internet not for our personal use. So you will see me at 5PM and on and on the weekends. Boo-Hoo! They don't let us have any fun!!

Fab Friday
Points - is your tomato jam recipe posted?

Fab Friday
Points - never mind - I found it! Sounds so easy. Can't wait to try it out on all these tomatoes I have.
Thank you so much!

RE: Fab Friday
DANGIT LeCLARE!! Tell them bosses you love your internet time and don't you let 'em bully you into not entertaining us all day long on here! LOL!! :-D

Busier than a puppy with two peckers around here today. I'm thinking some sauteed chicken chunks (no breading just sauteed 'til brownish) with some taters and green beans to go with. Still have some of my whipped chocolate pie for dessert.

Going to go to another officers home tomorrow to watch the game---down in Lori's neck of the woods, again. ;-)

Y'all have a great night.
--Kn0x--

RE: Fab Friday
Having a ladies party tommorow night so I have done some cooking today. so far I have made Mrtnzangel's baked artichoke-spinach dip. Keni's egg rolls in CI, and leabears spinach dip.
I also made some margarita Jello shots & some berry rum jello shots. Frozen mango margaritas and frozen tequila sunrise.
Anyone in the area that needs a new bra PM me for my address LOL.
points close your eyes:
I am having a bra party. Its like a tupperware party but the consultant measures you 10 different ways and the bra is custom made for you. I tell you its life changing!

Fab Friday
What a great party! I want to come but I live to far away!

RE: Fab Friday
mmmm artichoke spinach dip...mmmm
Hope they like it! And I hope you have a good time! With those jello shots sounds like you will. LOL

Corinne that sucks about Rob. I know how much you love him. Have a great time anyway!

Where is Donna?

Probably pizza here tonight. I became a fan of Papa John's on FB and got a coupon for a free medium cheese pizza. That'll knock about 10 off the order.

RE: Fab Friday
Now I have heard everything...a bra party. Candles, jewelry, pampered chef and now bras.

We have been on very slim pickings for a couple of weeks around here and I just got surprised with bags and bags of groceries from our church. Fresh milk! Coffee! sugar, flour, oil, salt, eggs, bread, cereals, maple syrup, fresh veggies!!!!, potatoes, rice spaghetti, sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, broccoli, green beans, cucumbers, salad dressing, margarine, chickens, hamburger, a steak, a roast. I'm in tears. Joe from Angel Food had called and prayed with me last night. He asked what we needed and God blessed us with food today. I'm profoundly grateful. My heart is so very full.

I just put it all away, crying all the time. I'm going to splurge and make a cheeseburger on wheat toast. Some tomato and some cukes with garlic. It will be Heavenly.

Fred will be home Wednesday. He has 16 medications to be filled and I need a spread sheet to coordinate the times and with food or without food instructions.
I have to get a walker and a wheelchair and grab bars at the ready. His oxygen and cpap machine, find a wedge to keep his head elevated, stuff to care for his head wound, books on tape, labels and symbols for his low vision. But, it is all worth every moment, he is coming home. Home to us.......Glory be.

RE: Fab Friday
I think the company is only in the Massachusetts area. It is called Zhyra. the women that created it named it for her grandma who used to call bras Brazeras. The bras are expensive but so worth not having to try on a ton of those things in a tiny dressing room. I can never get them back on the little hangers LOL.

RE: Fab Friday
hey, I saw that Papa John offer....what a deal.

If you wear orange to a Whattaburger on Tuesday, you get a free burger...if I recall correctly.

Bummer, Pat, about the internet shut down. They did that to us at work too. Plus all reading material has to be work related, no magazines, newspapers or puzzle books. It is really hard to stay alert when you can't do anything but look at tee shirts for hours on end. Sitting and waiting for a phone call can be so demoralizing. But, considering the alternative with so many others out of work, we should count our blessings and be grateful we still have our call center open. I'll practice thumb twiddling until we get busy again.

RE: Fab Friday
We have the best Papa John's. Pizza is good and tasty. Spinach Alfredo Deluxe is very yummy. We also ordered buffalo sauced chicken strips and were so hungry ate half of them before we realized they had no sauce. So I called em up and they sent a new box of them for free and let us finish the first one. Talk about service! We are good customers, though. We deserve it. :)

I think they have a plaque of us on the wall......

RE: Fab Friday
Tina I am so happy Fred is coming home. You guys will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs to you,
Gem

RE: Fab Friday
Yea Tina,no reading material for us either. Can you say gastapo! sp?

RE: Fab Friday
Hey Tina! Know it will be great to have Fred home, meds, spreadsheets, whatever. No one can do it better than you girlfriend!!!

RE: Fab Friday
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Pat ....I need it! Fred said I had my "generalissimo" voice on the phone tonight. I didn't mean to sound like a general, but sometimes you have to have a battle plan to tackle the skirmishes. Heavens, I have spared him the on-going dramas at home or worrying him with the crisis du jour. He needed to focus on healing and now I'm going to want to protect his health at all costs. I can not let the wolves nipping at my heels to be nibbling on his toes. HIs psyche is fragile enough with the vision loss. He has enough to cope with right now.

So do you think if we present our bosses with a study showing that an active engaged mind works better for the company? Boredom begets mistakes.....hm, think they would give us reading material?

Ended up making a bit of mayo with some capers, some dijon mustard and chopped onions (think Sparow's Caper puff) and topped my burger with it. It was delcious.

Many many prayers to the families and service men and women at Fort Hood. My heart aches for them. God bless them and keep them.

RE: Fab Friday
I can't hardly think of anything else besides Ft. Hood today. I made 2 really awesome friends on FB. They are a married couple. He is stationed at Ft. Hood and they live in Kileen. They are all ok, but I'm sure having that happen so close to home has really rocked their boat so much more than we can even realize.

The news is confusing and hard to watch. I don't trust the story. I just don't.

Prayers for all of them....

RE: Fab Friday
Tink we must have been posting at the same time. I didn't see your post.
That is Awesome. I love that full cabinet feeling comes from growing up on welfare. Thats why I can't throw anything (food) away.
So that will be one less thing you will have to worry about. I am so happy for you!!!!!
