Remember the military Wednesday!
Thankfull it's Wednesday and I am keeping all military in my prayers today.

I am not cooking. Phil is making American chop suey!

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Pat-yeah for a day off, you've got a keeper there with Phil, I'd say. Love American chop suey. Good idea.

Fred is coming home today. Glory be. I asked him yesterday what he would like for his homecoming dinner and he said: "Can you give me choices like they give me here?" Um, sorry not a short order chef and since the cupboard is limited in choices, how about choosing something I HAVE on hand? I DO think he was kidding me, but since I couldnt' see his face, I'm not altogether sure. He said spaghetti and after my last batch of sauce was so bad, I'm hoping I'll find the magic touch today.

God Bless our veterans and all those brave souls serving our country with bravery and honor.

Hey Otter, I tried making some cranberries that I had for a long time and tried to rehydrate them with cranberry juice and let's just stay they tasted just like prunes. It was not a good attempt. You taste expecting tart/sweet and get carmellized prune.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Tina, I am so happy for you that Fred is coming home today! What a blessing that is. I know you have a lot of hard work ahead of you but you won't have to be running to see him and maybe can rest a bit.
I am going to see what can be done with some left over teriyaki chicken that was way too salty last night.
have a blessed one.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Forgot to say, Yes, let's all remember the freedoms we have today is Thanks to our Military!

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Fell asleep while waiting for a loaf of bread on its second rise last night. It fell while trying to bake it this morning. Going to eat it anyway and on to the next loaf.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Salute to our brave soldiers past and present.

Thanks momma for the warning. I'll find fresh somewhere. Everyone enjoyed that butternut squash recipe so last year I'm not going to ruin the memory this year.

ANNOUNCEMENT! Today I took the dare on LiveStrong.com to quit smoking. This morning I had my last cigarette. I would appreciate your support in poking at me to make sure I keep at it.

Radishes have sprouted so I'm looking forward to seeing them on my plate in a few weeks. The grow so quickly. Its our first attempt so mom and I are pretty excited about it.

I'm going to make a pork stew today. Found a simple recipe Slow Cooker Harvest Pork Stew that was posted by someone that cooks like me I believe it falls into the category of whats not to like. I'll let you know how it turns out.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
WOOT FOR FRED! Don't mess up that sauce Momma :)

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Hey all! Looks like I have some catching up to do! Work has been crazy. Processor is out for a few days, so we are all scrambling to do the processing duties...it's even more tedious when you don't do it all the time. Glad that's not my regular job! lol

Been hit and miss for supper the last two nights. Gonna make homemade veg soup out of the leftover pot roast. Looking forward to it...that was the whole reason I made the pot roast! ; )

Tina, I am soooo excited that Fred comes home today! I'm sure he will love your spaghetti!

So I missed the American Chop Suey, gotta go check it out. And the Stickin Chicken..is it posted to the group?

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Remember the military Wednesday!
Saying prayers for the Military - they deserve all the support we can give them.
Stickin chicken sounds very good - think that's what we'll have for dinner. I may try an attempt at Fried Rice and steamed veggies to go with it.
So have for you and Fred Tina. Agree with M2 that it will be easier with him at home than to run back and forth to see him.
Hope all of you have a great day - the rain has stopped here for the time being and that it is good thing!

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Congrats on taking up the challenge to stop smoking. You need to do it for yourself because YOU WANT to quit. Speaking from experience here. I am a successful quitter for 23 years now. I tried a couple of times because of external pressure to quit. It didn't pan out. I couldn't quit until in my own mind I was ready. You will also know when you are ready.

MY STORY: I smoked for 17 years. I got tired of hacking when waking up. My sinuses would drain and on an empty stomach my stomach did not like that either so it started dry heaving that sinus drainage up. Memory is fuzzy now, but I think I took about 2 months of genuflecting in front of and calling out the name of the toilet bowl god. I made the decision for myself to quit. My life and body needed a change and I knew it. It was a clarity of mind moment. I also knew if I couldn't go the same old hang's and confront my habbit without breaking, I couldn't do it. So I kept my routine the same, going to the same smoke filled taverns, keeping my smoking friends, etc. Then the dreams started. I would smoke in my dreams and upon waking could not tell whether I had smoked or not. I was disappointed at myself of my failure until I could finally reason out that it was only a dream. The dreams come farther apart now but I still get one every eventuality and they still feel true to life. But I did it. I QUIT. I quit on that day 23 years ago and I lost my cough and food tastes better and I feel great for quitting. So let me tell you, do not quit with weakness in your heart. Do not run away from you surroundings. Stand strong in the face of your addiction and just say no.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Good for you Points!
Good luck Otter, I just heard on the news that they have a new vaccine to help you quit smoking.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
That's great Points, and thanks for sharing your story!
GOOD LUCK Otter!

Remember the military Wednesday!
Good luck Otter! My husband and I quit in April, 2008. We used Chantix for 1 month and we were done. Both of us had been smokers for 30-40 years. I can't tell you how good we feel and how much more money we have in our pockets! They are almost $7 a pack up here.
We also had a support group that checked i n the each of us once a week to start, then once a month now once a year!

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Thanks all for the encouragement. Great story points. I totally agree you have to do it because you want to and for no other reason. I'm there. I'm sure I'll have my moments but I know I have NOT smoked at least 3 cigarettes just today. The urge came along and I did 10 deep breathing and it passed.

I'll be traveling and away from my regular routines for a couple of days. That should help get me started. I wrote and announced to Mr. SuchAFuss and asked for his support. He did not reply. He did manage to let me know that he didn't think he'd eat my pork stew so get some mac and cheese out of the freezer for him.

Yes... I believe leaving the house for a couple of days is a good thing.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Did the math on my savings from stopping smoking and had enough to buy my "lust bucket" a flower in a vase for a year and have it delivered. Unfortunately I had a lot of competition and all I got was a peck on the cheek, although it was pleasurable watching her twist on a string trying to figure out whom the flowers were from.

That was back when cigs were a buck and a quarter.

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Awwwww Points...even better portion of the story! Did she ever figure it out?

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Soup, crackers, and grilled cheese sandwiches over here tonight. That's about all I have in me--still battling the crud.

Went to the grocery and turned in an application at a restaurant for TBO---all I hear these days is how he wants to go to work. We ate a bite while we were there---early "big" dinner and then later tonight if anyone is hungry--the soup.

Took my first banquet order today for Thanksgiving. By the time the two other resorts call in--and they're always last minute--I will be fully booked. Overbooked.

I say I'm not going to do this every year......

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
Hey all! Good to see you back, Lori! Great story Points. Good for you! Good luck, Otter, I'm sure you can kick it! My dad smoked for over 40 years or more and quit. Did it cold turkey, cuz cutting back never seemed to work.
Got my chicken in the brine this morning so that's what's for dinner. Not sure on the sides....
Yeah, Val, I'm glad it finally quit raining today. Tina, so happy for you to have Fred home. A big stress off of you having to run to and back from the hospital every day! Judy, sorry you are still sick, get well soon. Where are you Pat? Gotta go check out Wynne's American chop suey - I've never even heard of it. And that pic of the sticken chicken......

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
I'm here Donna. Entered my post early this morning! Looking forward to American chop suey especially since Phil did it! Salted crescents with it. Pic is there Donna!

RE: Remember the military Wednesday!
PB&J-ing my way through this felled loaf of bread today. Haven't got up the energy to start a new loaf yet. Need to get a load of dishes out of the way.

Did a little research on bread to find out that sugar retards the action of the yeast. I've been moaning about the time it takes for this bread recipe to ferment. Think I'll cut the sugar in half and check the results. Original recipe prescribes 1/4 cup. Backing off to 2 Tbsp. I like the feel of this recipes dough while kneading. Get a smooth and stretchy dough with a baby's butt feeling when the dough is ready for the first fermentation time, something that's been missing on a lot of the other bread recipes I try.

Took mother window shopping for a new toilet. Hers runs all the time making the water bill more than it should be. The shut-off valve leaks-by so when any work gets done the water will have to be shut off at the road. Toilet is a child's toilet (guess it's called a cadet) in a small bathroom in a mobile home that never has had the oomph to do a quality flush. So when we went window shopping, I showed her the price for the parts needed to fix the problem but still dealing with a weak flush then waltzed her by the new toilets for a "lookie Lou" moment and I think she is about to cave to the price of a new throne. Trying to talk her into an oblong seating area but think she is locked on to the round style. But at least I convinced her to consider the ADA style so it's easier to get up and down. It's just another project for me in the near future.
