Most varieties of orange juice have between 85 milligrams and 125 milligrams of vitamin C per cup, while red peppers have 283 milligrams per cup. Green peppers have about 120 milligrams. Vitamin C is essential for the formation of collagen -- a protein building block that helps make and repair skin, ligaments, blood vessels, and other tissues. Yet more than 30% of us aren't getting enough vitamin C for optimum health. Women need 75 milligrams a day. Men should get 90 milligrams a day. Smokers need even more - an additional 35 milligrams a day -- because they metabolize vitamin C more quickly.

I clearly need to be here to learn stuff. I recently suffered a HUGE setback in my eating habits when I found out that scones and pancakes have little or no nutritional value.... = )

crystalwaters 2 years, 3 months ago said: Different Variety That is a commonly held misconception about green and red bell peppers. There are certain varieties of green bells that will turn colour as they ripen, but not all do, and a true red bell pepper is a distinct subspecies and has different scientific properties than other colours like green, yellow, orange, etc.

OK, myabe that's not such a healthy way to get your red peppers, but I do love the things roasted...and they are delicious on a roasted veg sandwich. I love the idea the a true red bell can yeild that kind of vitamin C - I will definitely be working more of them into my diet. Does anyone know if roasting the red pepper diminishes any of it's vit C capability???

Bananas and berries are excellent with the pancakes and if you're baking your own scones toss in some berries, too. Or, make a lovely fruit smoothie to drink with them. You know the kind - loaded with fruit, protein powder, whole milk, and a scoop of ice cream for that nice smooth texture that goes into "Smoothie". So what if your clothes won't fit by the end of the week? Then we can take you shopping for new clothes, too, which are forgiving to your newest curves.
Does this help? Are we here for you or what?
