What's for dinner?
I thought it would be fun to tell what you had for dinner. We all post many recipes, let's see what we all really eat.

Pork Chops and Applesauce
Friday,
Broiled pork chops
Chicken flavored noodles
Green Beans
Cottage Cheese
French bread
Applesauce
Snack...Pumpkin Muffins

RE: What's for dinner?
An apple, so far.

RE: What's for dinner?
Oh piggs, that is not enough.

Oh, this is good...
Well, what else do you stuff a pig with???
bwa hahahahahahahahahahahaha

It WAS so good though...left over from my applesauce making Monday.

RE: What's for dinner?
Besides, I had a very late lunch of delicious Chinese from my fave Chinese restaurant.

RE: What's for dinner?
I had roasted pork, carrots, onion half and just finished a Honeycrisp apple...
I refraned from eating a potato.. I have a large roaster and so the roast and veggies cooked all day on 300*... fell apart was so tender... so good...

RE: What's for dinner?
we had; ( i WISH yOU HAD ASKED YESTERDAY!!)
soft taco shells stuffed with: cheese, leftover slice beef from last night roast, cooked red peppers and onions, sauted mushrooms, and topped with hot sauce and lettuce.

RE: What's for dinner?
piggs add a slice of cheese and you will have a protein and fruit.. now that's not a bad dinner!!

RE: What's for dinner?
Yum!
I find I have given up eating potatoes as much as I used to. I usually have a little cottage cheese instead. I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Fruits and veggies
Hubby's company has a wellness center (gym and health) for the employees and they send out a regular newsletter. The last one mentioned the summer activity that a lot of people participated in, where each week they did something different for the week, like walking every day or going to the gym X amount of time.
One week was for drinking at least 8 cups of water each day.
Another week was eating the required 3-5 fruits/veggies during the week.
Oh, and another was getting 8 hrs. sleep every night for a week.
I decided I would just try to do one week of eating my veggie/fruit servings, so I had lots of mixed veggies at the Chinese restaurant today and then the apple. I will have another before bed and maybe even a stalk of celery. YUMMMMMM At least I do enjoy veggies!

RE: What's for dinner?
My son's idea of vegetables are french fries and corn on the cob, that's about it. I started buying him that V-8 V-fusion. It's a fruit and vegetable blend. He loves the stuff, it may not be as good as the fiber he would get from the real thing, but it makes me feel a little better.

Not a bad idea...
Maybe we should all try something like what I mentioned. Maybe we would get some new good habits started if we all did one week at a time.
How hard would it be to make an effort to eat our fruits and veggies or drink 8 glasses of water each day or get more sleep.
These are healthy habits that won't do anything but make us healthier.
Whaddya say?

RE: What's for dinner?
I think it is a great idea. I have been making changes, little by little. I think if you try doing it all at once, you are more apt to give up. I have lost 26 pounds the last several months by making a few changes here and there. I don't like the water one though, I hate getting up 3 times during the night... : )

I think we should give it a try, we can all do it together!

RE: What's for dinner?
Ok, the deal with the water is that you don't drink it so that it runs through you during the night. Hydrate yourself in the early part of your day and taper it down in the evening. I, however, do try to drink a cup of water before going to bed, just to make sure my body has something to go on during the night. I also drink quite a bit right after I get up in the morning, just to get my body going in the morning, just in case it needs it.
I also like to have my OJ for potassium early on.
If we do something for a week, it's not hard to look at, where a month would be. After a good habit is started, it's much easier to keep going, or at least be conscious of.
Mimi, drink your water!....just do it before 5pm!

RE: What's for dinner?
Oh, you know, the getting up in the night routine wouldn't be bad for you, especially if you sleep a long way from the bathroom. It would give you more exercise! LOL

RE: What's for dinner?
Real funny Piggs. The thing is, I have to get completely dressed, we don't have any indoor plumbing yet, that is in our 10 year plan though.....LOL

Water
I do drink water, usually never after 6pm. I have heard, that it is better to drink a really week tea than to drink lots of water. They say too much water can actually wash vitamins and minerals out of your system. Gives ya something to think about.

RE: What's for dinner?
Saturday
Chili cheese dogs for dinner.
Everyone is off doing their own thing, so it had to be something easy.
I also had some Almond Banket......gosh I love that stuff!

RE: What's for dinner?
piggs I'm in.. what are we going to do the first week?? water? and if so does vitamin water count?

8 glasses of water a day
I'm working on improving my fruit and veggie intake but water does sound good.
Let's do water, starting Monday. That should give more people a chance to read this and join in.
I believe that would be eight 8 oz. glasses a day.
that would be four 20 oz. bottle of water per day. Spread it out, don't drown in water, just make sure you drink enough throughout the day.
I don't see why vitamin water wouldn't work.
I like lemon or lime in my water and will do that. It's good!

RE: What's for dinner?
Can I flavor my water with coffee?

RE: What's for dinner?
YECHHHH That word is a naughty on in my house. YECHHHHHHHH
ONLY if it's only a drop or two. Anymore and my ruler will be visiting your knuckles!!!

RE: What's for dinner?
I had pop tarts last night but tonight we are having.....
Pinto beans
Mamma's Cornbread
Country mashed poatoes
garlic Cole slaw
Sweet tea
A good ole hillbilly Supper. :o)

Sunday
We are having:
Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup and Dumplins
French Bread
Still trying to figure out dessert. The pumpkin muffins are all gone...darn.

RE: What's for dinner?
Beef Tips and Gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans
Cornbread

Not sure about dessert

RE: What's for dinner?
CoffeeB I was also wondering if Coffee counted thank goodness it does.. even weak coffee is better than NO coffee...

Sunday Dinner
I got home from work and fixed myself a big spread of raw veggies, after I picked tomatoes from the garden.
Had tomatoes, carrots, celery, cauliflower and broccoli, plus a sliec of Swiss cheese and a couple of slice of deli turkey.
For dessert, I had some nut and dried fruit trail mix.
For an after dinner treat, I had a few snack crackers slathered with pumkin butter and cream cheese.
(Had to fight the cats for the turkey or I would have had more.)

RE: What's for dinner?
Piggs, Have you posted the pumpkin butter recipe?

I ended up having fresh pineapple for a late night dessert.

Fruits and vegetables
If you want to get your 5 fruits and vegetables a day, these are the serving sizes suggested.

A serving size is:

One medium-size fruit
1/2 cup raw, cooked, frozen or canned fruits (in 100% juice) or vegetables
3/4 cup (6 oz.) 100% fruit or vegetable juice
1/2 cup cooked, canned or frozen legumes (beans and peas)
1 cup raw, leafy vegetables
1/4 cup dried fruit

An easy way to incorporate fruits and veggies into your life

Breakfast:
Add a glass of OJ or another fruit drink and/or some fruit...you can add fruit to your cereal, pancakes, waffles, or just eat a piece of fruit

Lunch:
Add a few carrots, cucumber slices, pickles, along side your sandwich, you can put a slice of tomato and/or lettuce on your sandwich, or have a salad. Try a banana, apple, or some grapes. Try a glass of vegetable or fruit juice in place of soda or milk.

Dinner:
Make a couple of veggies with your dinner, peas, corn, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts. Incorporate veggies in your casseroles, chilis, soups, etc. Try applesauce or fresh fruit as a dessert.

Snacks and desserts:
Try fresh fruits, fresh veggies, applesauce, a glass of fruit juice. If you have to have your sweets, try adding spinach or carrots to your pies and cakes, these can be shredded fine and will not be noticeable in baked goods.

Sunday supper was....
Blasted tomatoes with tarragon
a cauliflower and broccoli mix steamed
Chicken sauteed with portobello mushrooms, onion, artichokes and capers (posted)

Lunch was nothing, Breakfast was a 2 egg white omelet with some melted provolone and a handful of cooked spinach for good measure..

I drink copious amounts of water, chai, or green tea each day...but I take to work a 64 ounce mug of half strength chicken broth heated with a "herb of choice" and a dash of hot sauce. I sip on the hot broth all day and don't get hungry. It is less than 80 calories and I get all the fluid in. I buy low sodium broth and heat it up while getting my shower and I'm good to go. My supervisor walked behind me in a hallway last week and said, what is that perfume, you are wearing "Eau de Chicken Soup?" My other inmates, errr, cubicle dwellers swear when I arrive, they all start getting hungry from the broth aroma.
So will that count as "water consumed"?

I tend to skip lunch and the only trouble is having to get to the bathroom more than the two alloted breaks a day. Thank goodness I have the bladder of a camel and can hold it til my scheduled time. (I work in a sweatshop tied to a phone and if you "take too many potty breaks, you get written up as a disciplinary action" one of those places where they have to know what you do every minute you are on the clock. Heck, you have to sign in on a time clock, write the time in on a piece of paper, log-in to your phone which tracks your time, and the computer system that verifies that you are taking orders and not surfing the web....yep, it stinks but I have health insurance and heavens, I know we need that more than anything. Who needs dignity and self esteem!

Piggs when you get to the exercise week, help me please. I bought a pedometer and I move about as much as a slug, maybe less. Sedentary, is defined in the dictionary with my picture beside it.

I'm trying to keep the veggies up each day, but the low carb veggies are so all the same.....cruciferous. NO carrot, no peas, no beans. Boo Hoo!

Ladies, I have over 150 lbs. to lose, I'll take all the inspiration and encouragement you can share. Toodles, Tina

RE: What's for dinner?
Not your momma,
I found this book to be very helpful. It helped me a lot about learning to listening to my body and what it is telling me. For instance, if you are craving a candy bar, it is better to eat it then filling up on a lot of other food that don't satisfy you and then sometimes you still end up eating the candy bar. It also tells you how to know if you are satisfied, we all know when we are full, you know when you have to undo the button on your pants and sometimes the zipper, but satisfied is different than full. I hope if you do read it, you find it helpful. I seen the author on Oprah and he made a lot of sense.

RE: What's for dinner?
last night I had canned albacore tuna fish ( tuna fish is not one of my favorites) with ranch dressing (to cover up the taste) , rice, soy milk.. 1/2 and apple..

RE: What's for dinner?
What with a frost warning out for tonight it's a good night to make a big ole pot of chili for dinner.

Pumpkin butter
IF I posted that recipe I think someone would come to my house and beat me up.
It's posted in the Winter Squash group, as a post.
Coffeebean might work me over so it will stay there until she decides to post it as a recipe for the whole site.
It's pretty darned good.

Peetabear
Tuna? I LOVE canned tuna in water. I've actually only dieted once in my life and tuna was something easy for me to fix and eat.
I opened up whole can of tuna and threw it on the plate after draining. I also filled the plate with lots of veggies and some cottage cheese.
I made sure I had lots of foods that I liked and made sure I filled up.
If I didn't eat all of the tuna, I always had a cat standing by who was eager to help me clean my plate.
If my veggie was green beans, I added salsa or picante to it, to give it flavor. Also did the same for corn. Trust me, the veggies served with picante or salsa are really delicious.
I also had jars of pickled red cabbage and beets and applesauce available. I would sometimes have about five sides on my plate. I really liked what I was eating so the "diet" really wasn't a hard one.

RE: What's for dinner?
ahahahahaha Piggs consider yourself worked over and get that recipe posted.

RE: What's for dinner?
Ooops my bad...I did post it ahahahahaha

RE: What's for dinner?
Piggs
I can never eat anything without the cats.. they get the water off the tuna and then little piece of it as I eat. you'd think they were never fed!! the silly things eats my lettuce ,peas, lima beans, corn etc as well as potatoes and any meat I might have.. if Its on my plate they want it!! I eat tuna because it's easy, and fast. Sometimes I have canned salmon on toast with cream cheese.. that I do like..

Monday
I haven't felt good today so,
Chicken Noodle Soup for lunch
Ham sandwich for dinner

RE: What's for dinner?
Another late lunch so it was celery, apple, bits of broccoli and then some fruit and nuts trail mix.
Life is just so darned exciting around here, I tell you.
Hopefully I will get into the roasted chicken that's been in the fridge for a couple of days, begging to be eaten.
Cold roast chicken does sound so good, especially after lots of veggies for a couple of days.
(Had a BLTon whole wheat and good chicken noodle soup for a very late lunch.)

RE: What's for dinner?
Sorry O-mamma that you didn't feel well today.. Hope you feel better tomorrow... Good night my friend

RE: What's for dinner?
Thanks Bear,
Hugs and Kisses to you!

RE: What's for dinner?
Sorry to hear you're not feeling good. When the weather starts changing I always feel a funk.

RE: What's for dinner?
Thanks Ang,
I know I will be doing better in a few days. The good thing is, I can feel like pooh and still sit at the computer.

Supper tonight
Roasted Broccoli, and baked salmon with parmesan crust. Chai Tea, decaf.
I'm going decaf. Have a miserable cold and can't talk, it was hard at work, a customer service agent who croaks isn't pleasant.
O-momma, I hope you feel better soon. Toodles, NYM

Monday
Feeling better tummy wise, thanks hon. I think I am coming down with sinus crud now. What a life.

Stew Beef
Stroganoff noodles
Corn
Cottage Cheese
French bread
Dessert, trying crescent rolls with almond paste.

Tuesday
Breakfast was....non-existant.

I know; don't yell at me :) We've been going to bed rather late the last few nights. I promised my duaghter that I would help get through the enslaught of homework (catch-up at the new school) and as a result, we slept in Monday morn, and again this AM. (Hubby gets up at 5:00 AM....and that's just TOO bloody earlier for me :)

OK...back on track....

Tuesday lunch....we had Veggie cream soup with (sotrebought) cheesebread.
Dinner: we had PENNE Alfredo (in honour of Nemo), with veal cutlets stuffed with tomatoes & mushrooms.
Alfredo was TO DIE FOR and over the top to say the least; gonna have to run around a few blocks for that one :)

Wednesday
Spaghetti and Garlic Bread.

It's funny how often I cook spaghetti and then realize it is Wednesday.

RE: What's for dinner?
Wednesday evening found me chowing down of leftover roast chicken, YUMMMMM
Also had dried fruit and nuts.

RE: What's for dinner?
I'm gonna try Lor's Mmmmmmm Chicken and Dumplings tonite. I've never made my own dumplings before. I usually just use frozen egg noodles.

RE: What's for dinner?
Either way, noodles or dumplings and chicken are delicious.
What time is dinner, I will be over. :)

RE: What's for dinner?
I'm having black eyed pea soup with ham and greens along with some cornbread.

Nada, zip
I don't feel like eating. I've had a cheese stick earlier and some chai tea.

Thursday
I had a very early dinner. Had a half serving of delicious lasagna with garlic bread.
Will be having fruit later.

Thursday
Tacos

RE: What's for dinner?
Last nite I had chicken wings and salad and Apple Pie (used Splenda), sure was good...
I lost most of my weight with ' South Beach Diet' book... I was listening to 'Health Radio' and a Diabetic Specialist said he thought the SBD was the Best Diet for EVERYONE, not only Diabetics... he said Weight watchers was N0. 2 as far as he was concerned. I went on line and ordered the book... The first two weeks were murder... after that a breeze with so much more you can eat... I automatically go by it most of the time now... It becomes a way of life...

RE: What's for dinner?
last night we had clam spaghetti withgrated asiago cheese.. I ate way too much!!!

Friday night supper
Dinner tonight will be broiled red snapper fresh from the Gulf, roasted cauliflower and broccoli mix topped lemon zest and dill butter (some for the veggie, some for the fish), baked spud for the hubby, romaine salad with sherry vinaigrette & parmesan crisp. Decaf iced Chai Tea.

Went back to the doctor today, third visit in two days-shingles in my tear ducts, no wonder I felt so lousy this week...anyway I was down another three lbs. Either the low carb is working or the illness caused the weight loss, but I'll take any loss as a good loss.

Here's to a healthy happy Friday to y'all. Happy cooking.

RE: What's for dinner?
