Healthy Practices
Healthy Practices
Each week we will start a healthy practice that can develop into a healthy habit.
1st week is drinking 8 glasses (64 oz.) of water each day.
2nd week is eating 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
3rd week is for getting exercise. Walking...
Walking a little more each day than the day before. If you are just starting, start slowly and add to it each day. If you already walk, up what you are doing for more gain.
4th week is for eating more fiber. More to follow on that one.
Other practices will be added. If there are any suggestions for new practices, let me know. There isn't anything in stone for this, just making healty choices new habits for a healthier life.

water water everywhere
I'm with you on the water. I drink nearly a gallon each day. Really. I crave water and carry around a big 32 ounce insulated cup that I fill twice. That is in addition to my decaf green tea for breakfast and my decaf chai for after dinner. So, this part I can do. Now as long as I don't do caffeine and soda.....and keep away from those two, I'm better off too.

RE: Healthy Practices
I know what you mean about the soda and caffeine. I've tried to quit but at least I've reduced. At home, I keep no-caffeine Coke, which I can't find at the fountain, as I don't drink any diet. The artificial sweeteners are just as bad for you as the high fructose corn syrup so I stay with the hfcs.
The best thing would be to NOT consume any hfcs OR artificial sweeteners. It's just too bad they don't tell you what both of those do to your body.
I shouldn't be consuming any caffeine at all so the caffeine monkey rides on my back most of the time.
I will keep caffeine in my green tea, as the studies have shown that the properties in green tea work with the caffeine to do their good stuff against cancer, etc. The decaf green tea just doesn't hold up for some of the green tea goodness. It's still good, but not as much.
I also love chai. One Indian restaurant that we love has the absolute best masala chai, which I can't get enough of.

Water
I was once told that if you're ever thirsty, you're most likely dehydrated. The easiest way to consume plenty of water is at room temperature...makes it easier to guzzle. I like to put cucumber and lime slices in my water.

Decaf green tea?
I'll gladly swap back to regular green tea, I like the flavor better. I thought I was making the better choice but if I can have regular green tea (not to mention it is cheaper) I'll gladly do it. Thanks so much for the information.

Tallk about forgetful....at one point I had nine boxes of green tea in my pantry. I kept buying it because I heard it was good for you,but obviously forgot to make it....LOL

RE: Healthy Practices
Yep, you have to use it, once you buy it.
It wouldn't be hard to put a bag in your water container and let it steep for a while, before taking it out. It really doesn't have such a distinct flavor that you would even notice it when diluted. You could sneak your tea in and not notice it.
I've also put limes or lemons in my water but not cucumber. When i squeeze my limes or lemons for recipes, I keep the leftovers for my drinks. I love lime in Coke so at least something in the glass is healthy.
That little added boost of healthy never hurts anyone.

RE: Healthy Practices
My mother buys green tea bags with mint.. she makes a pot of that a drink it thru out the day.. might be another alternative..

RE: Healthy Practices
and PIGGS .... COKE????

RE: Healthy Practices
Oh yes, COKE. I have a very bad COKE monkey on my back. At times it's controlable but sometimes not. Recently it's been a smaller monkey but still there. Making an attempt to drink a lot more water has lessened the desire, as I'm always thinking about how much water I have left to drink. :)

Water
The only advantage to my job is all the talking I have to do and in order not to sound like a croaking frog, the water keeps me sounding pleasant. I can go all day Saturday and Sunday and barely utter a word because I CAN. Of course, my water consumption is much less on those days too.

RE: Healthy Practices
Ok, I'll get my Green Tea bags out and try to drink it, I've been drinking a little more water than usual, it's just hard to drink when not thirsty!! I really try, REALLY! lol
Hope ya'll join my new '101 A Diabetic Low Carb Place, being a Diabetic is the pits, so I figure 'Why Not'... ttyl... hugsssssssss

RE: Healthy Practices
hi, im new here. yup, i'm also trying to incorporate healthy practices in my lifestyle now. a month ago i got sick and was informed by my doctor to do something with my weight and all these stuff about cholesterol and sugar... anyways, i started cutting pork and beef on my meals. just eat chicken and fish now. and ive started gym already too. and about the water, hmmm. let me confess, i dont drink water that much, just softdrinks or soda, but that was before. so i'm currently changing my lifestyle big time here. hehehehe

RE: Healthy Practices
Congratulations on starting a new life-style diet. Just remember to encorporate foods that you enjoy eating. If you don't that diet won't last long. Find several healthy foods that you really enjoy and make sure you get lots of those. I know it's hard but if you love the diet foods, you aren't dieting, just eating different foods.
