Cookbook wishlists
I thought that since Christmas will soon be upon as it might be interesting to see what cookbooks might be on peoples' wishlists. The lists can be inspirational for many of us.

RE: Cookbook wishlists
Great idea....my Mom gives my sister and I a cookbook every year at Christmas. I haven't looked at cookbooks in the stores in a while, but, I need a good one for appetizers, party food, etc.

RE: Cookbook wishlists
Gee, Deb....I've never really met a cookbook I didn't like :) !!

But, I used to have an old spiral-bound cookbook by Umberto Menghi (spelling??) that came from Italy. t had tons of seafood recipes in it....Anyway, a friend borrowed it about 15 years ago and I've never seen it since....Wouldn't mind replacing that one some day.

What books would YOU like to see under your tree this year???

Re:Cookbook wishlists
Kukla I had to laugh when I read your comment about not having met a cookbook that you didn't like.

I do have a wishlist of cookbooks and perhaps husband might happen to see this list. :) Some of them are:

PotPies:Yumminess in A Dish by Elinor Klivans and Scott Peterson
1080 Recipes which is the definitive book for Spanish cuisine which was just recently translated into English. It apparently is to Spain what Joy of Cooking is to the U.S.
Last but not least is Leiths Baking Bible by Fiona Burrell and Susan Spaull which I happened to look through while checking out cookbooks here. It had a fabulous assortment of desserts and baked goods.

I agree
I love reading cookbooks. I have a library of cookbooks very old, old new from professionals to the little traditional personal books. I love them all. They are about the only books I read. What I give alot fot the holidays and I LOVE to get as gifts or at least a gift card! lol With moving I have a room full packed of cookbooks. I have some great ones I would love to pass on...

RE: Cookbook wishlists
Debra....have to let us know what you hubby's email addy is... :) we'll make sure a wee fairy whispers in his ear.......

Diva, Darling :) I know exactly what you mean....Even my "365 Ways To Cook Hamburger - The Easy, Economical, and Excitingly Different Recipes for 1 to 100 People" cookbook is a blast to go through! Copyright 1958; Dedication: "this book is dedicated to my Mother-in-law, Delphine Franklin, whose files turned up several interesting recipes she prepared during World War I......"

Ya just gotta love it :)

Cookbooks in general
I have a ton of them sitting on the floor to the one side of the bed so I can look at them before going to sleep.

Kukla I had mentioned to him that I was posting my wishlist on here. :)

Your cookbook collection sounds wonderful recipediva!

RE: Cookbook wishlists
One thing on my wishlist:

An unspecified amount of money so I can grab a friend and we can peruse the shelves of used (and new) book stores and find gems hidden among all the usual suspects. A nice dinner and great coffee afterwards would have to be included in this amount of money.

RE: Cookbook wishlists
The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters looks very good.
My Life in France, by Julia Child and Alex Prud'Homme seems like a must read!
And I see that Anthony Bourdain's got a new one out, I love his books.

Having one of each
I think there should be a club that you automaticly get a new cookbook that comes out... Maybe we can start a test group and write to the publishers!! lol Oh how I would just love that. I love going to my second had store...I have gotten amazing cookbooks that are huge and incredible for 2 bucks each. Need I mention....the "E" word...(ebay?)! I have to stay off that site..all i ever buy is cookbooks. We should start a swap...always a few you may not like and would rather have one someone else is ot crazy about! lol

Great ideas!
Unfortunately (for my wallet & credit cards...) I am a member of Doubleday's "The Good Cook".....

Usually kind of book club; get any 3 for pennies, commit to buy 3 (??) more in the next year. Well, I met the commitment in the first week :) and superceded that by about another 15 books..... LOL !

Seriously, though, the prices are very reasonable, sales are great (often have buy 1 at Member's Price, get second 50% off Member's price...) AND...if you get a free book every time you sign up a friend. Their monthly member's catalogue includes all kinds of info, pictures, and samples from all the latest & newly published books.

You can browse their site over the internet, but be forwearned that some of the super-special prices are not reflected there; they come directly to members in a catalogue, via the mail, every month....

Here's the Canadian website: www.thegoodcook.ca
and the American one: www.thegoodcook.com

But I'm liking your "swap" idea, Diva :)

Book club
I belong to thegoodcook, com club and have gotten alot from them (much to my wallet's dismay LOL) I like the book swap idea alot. A good idea and I have been trying to think how to do it. What if we start a swap thread and each member can put up a list of books they don't want anymore and a "wish" list of those subjects, titles or authors they do want. The books could be sent out book rate as I believe that's the cheapest ship rate from the Post Office. Each member would "private message" their address info to each other. My only worry is that no one be unhappy with their trade or feel they are putting out alot monetarily for shipping or the USPS loses a package. If we do this everyone should enter knowing there is risk involved. Any other suggestions?
