William J. Laik
Kerhonkson - William J. Laik, 51, of Hilltop Terrace, died Monday, November 5, 2007 at the Ellenville Hospital. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on November 4, 1956, a son of Lillian Kushlowitz and the late William Laik. An area resident for most of his life, he grew up in Rosendale, attended St. Peter's School and was a 1974 graduate of Rondout Valley High School. He held an Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Ulster County Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Software from SUNY New Paltz. He was employed for the past 26 years as a corrections officer for Ulster County Sheriff's Department. He was also a member of the Correctional Officer's Benevolent Association and the Sheriff's Association of Ulster County. He was a member of the United States Sheriff's Deputies Association and was instrumental in starting V.I.N.E. system in Ulster County. Bill also enjoyed antiquing, cooking, gardening and computers. In addition to his mother of Kerhonkson, he is survived by his wife of 13 years, Betsy L. Grenda Laik; three daughters: Erin Pawski of Kerhonkson, Briann Conklin of Kerhonkson, and Allysa Laik of Kerhonkson; and son, Marc Styles of New Paltz. He is also survived by a sister, Bernadine Laik of Oregon; a brother, Robert Laik of Saugerties; two grandchildren, Jonah Mikesh and Jasper Fassbender, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 9:15 a.m. from the George J. Moylan Funeral Home, Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale, NY 12472. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Rosendale, N.Y., with the Rev. Andrew Florez officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
