The American Diner Cookbook by Elizabeth McKeon and Linda Everett
This particular cookbook was last published in 2003 so it should be fairly easy to find still if interested. The recipes found in this book are all everyday meals that most Americans take for granted but what makes them special is how they reflect our heritage. Living away from my home country makes me better appreciate what I can find on a typical American diner's menu pages. There are more than 450 recipes in the book ranging from buttermilk pancakes to home-style coleslaw. I highly recommend the book.

I purchased the book from Amazon.com. They have a gazillion books and also offer them new and used from outside dealers. You can find any cookbook on that site. However, the Diner Cookbook is just awesome--so many good old American down-home style recipes and all kinds of sidebar stories about diners all over the country. A lovely book, highly recommended.

I think we sometimes can take certain traditional American meals for granted so this cookbook is a great reminder of all the varied meals one finds in a diner. I plan on going to some diners when I am back in the US in the fall.
