I get a magazine called "The Herb Companion" and came across these simple recipes on personal hygiene and I thought they would fit perfect here
HERBAL CLEANSING LOTION:
Makes 6 oz.
This cleanser is a great alternative to harsh soaps, great for sensitive skin, if you don't grow these or can't find the fresh versions, feel free to substitute using dried versions.
1/2 cup boiling water ( distilled)
1 tsp fresh fennel leaves or 1/2 tsp dried
1/2 cup fresh elderflowers or 1/4 cup dried
1 tbsp honey
1/4 cup buttermilk.
Combine water, fennel and elderflowers. Steep until cool ( like making tea) Strain mixture and blend liquid with honey and buttermilk.
To use, massage a small amount onto face and neck. Rinse with warm water and pat skin dry.
Store in fridge.
FRESH ALOE CLEANSER:
Aloe has been used for centuries as a important beauty ingredient for centuries, this is another alternative to soap and water.
2 tbsp fresh aloe vera gel
1/4 cup light olive oil
2 tbsp rose water.
Blend together all ingredients and pour into a clean container. You may need to stir mixture before use. To use, massage mixture onto face and neck and rise with warm water, pat skin dry.
SAGE MASK:
1/2 cup boiling water
1 tbsp fresh sage leaves
3 tbsp oatmeal
2 tbsp honey
1 egg white
Pour water over sage leaves; cool completely. Strain and add sage liquid to oatmeal, honey and egg white. Mix until smooth and creamy. Spread mixture on clean skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat skin dry.
