With the high cost of food these days ,I have switched to more store brand name products. I find most are as good as the high price brand...but I have had a few that was plain awful.Theres still a few things I swear by and wont change brands. I try to buy these on sale. How about you?

Like you, Zanna, I've found most store brands comparable and sometimes better than a name brand. Let's face it........some major manufacturer is putting the store label on the product using the same name brand product.

I think the ones were disappointed in are maybe being produced by a brand we wouldn't normally purchase anyway. I just make sure not to use those particular ones again.

Overall, I've found store brands to be equal if not better than name brands.

I use lots of store name brands and some I like even more. The only thing I caution is for the grocery store H.E.B most of the time their "store" brand is more expensive than the name brand and I don't get that. My Mom is the one who pointed that out to me a couple months ago.

I think most store brands are very good. I know brand name manufacturers do private label for a lot of companies! Certain things,I have to have brand name!

I agree...store brands are just as good as the name brands...

Your right Jencathen on the H.E.B. I went to their web site and complained! Have you been there? Great recipes by the way! Another thing I don't understand about them.. Texas has how many miles of coast line? And they don't offer much fish on sale?

Never tried the H.E.B. coffee Z... Folgers is what we usually get... I love the French Market blend!

I have tried the Parade brand... did not care for it... Now our local Target.. is getting more and more items in.. they are really good.. It is not a full grocery here in my area YET! The raviolis, frozen cheese, are the best I have ever gotten frozen... The best! And it is a off brand...

I have a friend that uses the triple coupon sales, which certain days count coupons as a triple. She says that it ends up being cheaper than the store brands. I've never tried it because I just haven't been good at keeping up with all the coupons.

Line, what's the name brand of the frozen raviolis and cheeses? I'd like to try it out. . .

I think most store brands are comparable. With name brands, I think we're probably payng for advertising costs and the name, of course.

Coffee is where I don't do store brands. Same with tp and paper towels.

I find the store brands of most any item at the leper colony I frequent (the market) to be quite acceptable. I avoid "generic" waste bin liners, though. I've had a couple of unfortunate incidents with them in the past, and that was enough for me to say "hell no; never again." For the most part though, it's all the same to me.

I'll check out the H.E.B website Linda. I'll have to make a complaint too. I don't know what it is about the fish department, but they have little to no choice here.

I usually go to my local fish monger now.

In another thread, we were talking about cravings, and I occasionally REALLY crave a nice, juicy steak. That got me to thinking: have any of my GR friends here tried the "No Name" brand packages of frozen meats? Are they worth the price? And how do they hold up tastewise to the fresh stuff out of the meat case? What about portions? Is anyone really saving any money buying that "brand?"
