Party on
Just bringing the group back up...have been a little lax lately!

RE: Party on
Yes you have!!!!!....TeeHee....Been missing you....:)

RE: Party on
speaking of parties..... I am planning the BF's 50th on Saturday - small gathering only totaling 6 people... still haven't a clue as to what to make....and these people know their food..

got any.ideas people?

I need 'em! Was betwixt between lemon meringue pie and creme puffs - but think I will do the creme puffs since its extra special...

salad, with tarragon white balsamic salad dressing.... homemade guacamole, homemade chips and bean dip,

then I am at a loss for what to serve dinner - they have all had my leg of lamb....

RE: Party on
Diva, have you checked out my beef burgandy made wit filet mignon?

RE: Party on
Diva sent you the recipe. It is with stew meat,we did with filet mignon ,have also done with steak tips. Great recipe!

RE: Party on
diva...make the cream puffs small and fill them with stabilized whipped cream flavored with chocolate and liqueurs!

Do your guest like salmon? We have a gazillion recipes for that.

RE: Party on
Diva.......we're all dying to know what you're treating your guests to at the party!

How did they menu plans turn out?

RE: Party on
Hey thanks all for the ideas and comments! I also thought yesterday - wow me, with an idea, how novel is that! -

ok I had this idea of asking the BF what HE might want for dinner...since it is HIS bday party, right? SO we went through some choices, he mentioned the leg of lamb, but I shared this group of people had seen that from me twice now in different forms, I wanted to do something different...so chicken el capitan - good for parties, I can make it up in the morning, then reheat at night =- very ina garten...leaving me the time to make the rest of the meal...

WIll probably start right after I come back from the grocery store today with certain things - so here's the menu:

All homemade :-P

hummus, cilantro bean dip, zahatar, herbed butter, homemade tortilla chips and flat bread bread kind of like foccaccia, salad with the tarragon salad dressing as mentioned before, chicken el capitan, cilantro & scallion basmati rice, red & white wine, tea & latte coffees, creme puffs with wynne's suggested flavored filling - which will be godiva liquored enhanced creme filling.

with the chicken el capitan - the fun part is having the extra condiments that people add onto their own plate: crisp bacon bits, toasted almonds, coconut, added light raisins - chicken falls off the bone and has a complex wonderful flavor that's enhanced by the cherry tomatoes, grapes and raisins that the dish is cooked in with very slight undertones of a gentle curry.

RE: Party on
Sounds like a great menu. Have a great time!

RE: Party on
Sounds great

Although I'd like to take the credit for the cream puff idea, that was Pat2Me.....:)

RE: Party on
Oh my goodness.....who's going to be there to roll everyone away from the table?

Sounds fantastic and I think you have enough for the rest of us too.....what time should we be there?

RE: Party on
Me too,me too!!

RE: Party on
hehe.... I will make sure to put up some photos... especially on those creme puffs.... and thanks pat2me AND wynne.... along with everyone else....I will have to go shopping in the am. - too tuckered out for some apparent unknown reason today - felt like I had a hangover today I was soo sluggish after washing that dog of mine, when I didn't even have a reason like drinking yesterday....

RE: Party on
Sounds absolutely fabulous! Can't wait to hear about it.

RE: Party on
Pictures would be awesome, thanks!

RE: Party on
and a few extra creme puffs too I imagine, huh? hehe.... off to the store -

RE: Party on
Creme puffs too would be good. Happy shopping!

RE: Party on
Dinner was a huge success....everyone loved all the food, the company fantastic.... - funny story - I even called my mom on a creme puff emergency.... was about to come on in here.... I baked the creme puffs, let them cool down - looked high and mighty and super light and airy, etc.... put them on the cooled cookie sheet in my bed room where the AC was on high along with other food such as the home made tortilla chips to keep away from dog....

several hours went by, and they looked like they were sinking a bit.... flattening out.... I freaked.... called the creme puff emergency line (my mom) -since its her recipe.... asked her what to do... told me to make another batch...had guest bring extra eggs...to make another round during appetizers....these ended up being worse.... ended up using the 'old' ones which were fine - the godiva chocolate liquor inspired filling went off really well...match up nicely with the hazelnut coffee lattees

good night all... got loads to clean up in the am...

RE: Party on
Glad the party was a success! Had no doubt~~~~ How about leftovers?

RE: Party on
Yeah, how about it....any leftovers?

After baking cream puffs, do you cut a slit in them so the steam can escape and let them dry in the turned off oven? That usually will eliminate that problem, especially if it's a humid day.

RE: Party on
aha! I did leave them in the oven with the door open....

but will do that next time.... and as for leftovers, I had some, I just ate your creme puff I had an extra one... and yes Im sorry.... but I had to do it....the suggestion of the flavored filling really worked out so well!
