I still do use convenience items occasionally, but I try very hard to cook from scratch. Some days, time doesn't allow for that, but I do stay completely away from those box mixes like tuna and hamburger helper, stuff like that--"dinner in a box." I'd much rather make those things from scratch then load my family up with salt and preservatives.
There's nothing like cooking a delicious, wholesome dinner for family and friends.

Pasta-Roni and canned tomatoes and beans certainly are no strangers in our house. However, as long as the fresh foods outnumber the convenience items, I'm pretty pleased with myself.

I've found that I can't buy anything in a box or can because they contain salt. I've gone back to the basics and cook from scratch. It has been a challenge, so I'm excited to find new ideas for meals.

There are not a lot of convenience foods available here in Brazil, so I find myself having to skip recipes with canned soups, tomatoes, or beans, Cool Whip, marshmallows, cake mixes, salad dressings, etc. Actually, I prefer to cook with fresh ingredients and there are plenty available here both in the supermarkets and at the "farmer's markets".
