My Aunt Jesse worked in Bamberg, SC teaching folks about good nutrition and how to cook well for your families when you don't have much cash available. I believe she did good work and it is what I remember her for.

It is wonderful that you had such a great role model to show you the ropes. I try to share with my two married daughters the need to cook at home and not eat out all them time, maybe someday they will listen to what I say.

I will get through with a meal and say..ummmm wonderful side for that bit of chicken or beef. (whatever).or this is gonna make incredible soup!! :)
Patti.. you are so so correct, and if these grown daughters and sons have recd. no training, they are going to be in a mess now!! I see young couples with say 2 children spending over $200.00 a week.. you know what is real scary..they are charging their groceries,,when I was a young housewife we often talked about that is something you NEVER do..is owe for food and shelter. A lot of the young couples don't even have enough for the basics, and it breaks my heart!
Otter, I KNOW you are grateful to your Aunt Jesse and remember many of the things she taught you!!

I had never even heard of such a thing until I was about 23 ( unfortunately a couple of decades back in time ) and I went shopping with my sister-in-law. I was stunned to see her plop out a credit card to pay for her food like she was at the mall.
Of course, I do it all the time now, but then again I never carry a credit balance. Insidious how the cash is dissappearing from our society.

When Tom's grandfather passed away at the beginning of the year they sure came in handy since there was a two day notice for the funeral. BUT, I do not believe in having a balance. I do realize that many young couples today cannot survive without putting things on credit, one can only hope they know how to budget and pay things off.

I charge almost everything to Walmart..(where, when I am able to, I work) Or on my PAY PAL card that is funds I earn on line. (so I never owe for anything more than a few days).
