I was able to assist in making a difference for two families this year & couldn't be happier. We bought enough things for this family that even if the parents couldn't buy 1 item this Christmas, their children would never know. With things being rough on so many people this year, I decided to make a change in my department. I asked everyone what they thought of doing away with our "Secret Santa" gift exchange & instead use the $15-$20 towards buying gifts for someone that really needs them. Everyone loved the idea & two people even donated their $50 gift card given by our company for Christmas. We contacted a local organization for assistance with finding a good family (one that could truly use our assistance) & found a wonderful family with 3 young kids. We purchased clothes, boots, toys, games, diapers, etc for the kids & then bought things for the parents & house as well, PLUS we gave them the gift cards to make purchases for themselves (or pay bills, etc). The local organization is then going to deliver our wrapped gifts to the family & said we'd receive a card & possibly pictures from our family. Our company then offered to allow the employees to wear jeans for 2 weeks for a $10 donation (if you wanted to wear logos you had to donate a toy as well). For such a small company, we did really well - raising over $400, plus we received about 15 toys, and two more people donated their gift cards! So, we went to the Salvation Army & found a family whose husband just passed away unexpectedly, there are 2 boys & a baby on the way. We bought clothes, toys, cleaning products/household products, lamps, vacuum cleaner, & much more for this family, plus we're planning on giving them at least 1 gift card to make their own purchases. We wrapped all the presents and signed them from 'Santa'. I can only imagine the reaction from the parents when the see all the wrapped gifts, the relief it will be on them not to have to explain to their young kids why Santa didn't come this year. Kids are only young once & you hate to have them grow up before they need to. Such a small sacrifice on us to not do a gift exchange & yet such a huge impact it's going to have on our family. Happy Holidays to all! :)

Select firm, red cranberries and prick once or twice with a needle. Boil the sugar in the water until it spins a thread. Put in cranberries and cook gently until syrup jellies when tested from the tip of a spoon. Remove berries one at a time and place on wax paper. Let stand until dry. Dip the berries in granulated sugar.
