Season 5 - finale time
I'm definitely watching tonight. I am wondering if they will eliminate one or two.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I'm excited too. Can't wait to see what happens. Go Carla!! Rock on sistah girl, show them the love.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I will tape and watch tomorrow!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Ok, pleclare. We'll wait for you! :)

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Thank you!!!!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I wanna see Jeff get back in..... ;-)~~

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Oh, I hate the way that turned out. I'll not say anymore so others can catch up, but I'm not pleased at all over the judges picks. Nice twist and I love love love the New Orlean's setting. Gorgeous.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
The food that all of them prepared looked very interesting to me. I've never had any Cajun, Creole or New Orleans "type" food. Made me want to try some!

Interesting comment, Jim. :-)

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Opps.. sorry... ;-)~

RE: Season 5 - finale time
What are you sorry about for Jim? Just say...

SPOILER DISCLAIMER

I am having difficulty with my internet at home (bad connection), so I am posting from here at work.

I'll try again tonight by messing with the modem...if not, I'll check back in tomorrow.

Loved the challenge and the judge! Makes me want to take a foodie road trip!

Frankieanne, once you have some real Cajun/creole food- you are hooked...there is no turning back if you get the real deal. That's why I cook Cajun...I'm hooked!

Jim, I happen to agree with you...I think they should have put him back in and eliminated the trash once and for all. My final three would be different then what we have for next week. And I finally got to see how to make a real roux! (You're right dark is better!)

All I can say is go Carla!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
That's OK, Jim. I just kept looking at the time stamp of your message and doing math. I was thinking perhaps you were psychic or something. :-D

I have a feeling quite a few people are going to be unhappy with the outcome. The final three aren't who I thought would make it at all!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Hate the final three. So wanted it to be different. I know I'm repeating myself, but it still steams me that they picked left that pompous arrogant blanketedy blank in and my second and third favorite chefs are out. Bummed, is putting it mildly. Shoot, Darn. notyourmomma is not pleased.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Definitely a different twist to this series. Not happy with who went. Agree with notyourmomma on the pompous arrogant blanketedy blank. If he wins,I will be very unhappy. Go Carla Go!!! The food all looked fantastic. how did she shuck 100 oysters and get eveything done!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Hey, npnym (not pleased notyourmomma :D) I am curious as to who you wanted for the final three. I am sure you must have said somewhere along the line, but I have forgotten.

I am glad you got to watch, pleclare.

I am definitely surprised that Hosea is still there, but I guess what type of food they had to cook probably had something to do with that. The "Euros" definitely were at a disadvantage with that, I think.

I kind of think it isn't fair to the final four that they bring in other chefs that were kicked off earlier. That's probably just me though.

I was so pleased that Carla won.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Oh, yes. The food did look fantastic, pleclare. I gotta visit the website and see if they post some of the recipes there. Although I don't think I can get crawfish in Ukiah, Californa.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Hi Ladies and Jim!

I finally got my connection back!

Frankieanne, you can order crawfish over the internet and it will be shipped to your house the next day on dry ice. If you do that, I suggest you just get the tail meat that has already been taken out of the shell and frozen. Crawfish (or crawdads) in the shell do not taste good when frozen and they thawed (sort of like corn on the cob)

Plecare and NYM, I totally agree that the jerk should have been eliminated...his drink and his food didn't look good at all. I really think they should have eliminated the two Euro's and brought Jeff back (or better yet Jaimie.)

Can we talk about the quick fire challenege? What was with the lame gumbo Leah made ? Like that was going to impress Emeril...(not!) She would have better just to go for a crawfish boil with some corn and potatoes. I like Jamie's recipe..but maybe Jeff's tasted better...I'm not sure.

Frankieanne, I'm sure the Euro's are at a disadvantage when it comes to cajun/Creole food. Having a French cooking background would help you slightly, but since the cooking is a blend of cultures plus food found in the Gulf/swamp region, the best way to learn is to practice, ask questions, eat a lot of Cajun food, and then ask more questions. I am supoosing they had about two weeks in between last week's show and when they had to report to New Orleans. I don't know why they just didn't go down early and immerse themselves in the culture and food.

Ok, so who did you all want in your final three?
I really wanted Carla, Jamie, and Arianne.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I wanted Carla,Jaime and Arianne also!!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Gotta say, I agree with all about the arrogant blankety blank...My favorite was Arianne and I was so disappointed when she left....Go Carla!!!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
HI, welcome to the TC party Wynne!

I read Tom's blog on the TC website for a little clarification...it seems that he considers Arianne too one dimensional and not adventurous (food-trying and learning wise) enough. In the Quick fire challenge, Jaimie's food looked better, but Jeff's food tasted better. And in the cook-off, what we didn't get to see was that Jeff used a sterno container underneath a chaffing dish to keep his oysters warm, and that the sterno burned (remember when someone said what's burning?) the wrong way and made all of the oysters taste like sterno.

Interesting reading...especially when it came down to the choice between Fabio and Stefan.

I'm rooting for Carla!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Oh, I forgot to say.....

I'm so happy that I have someone to talk to about Top Chef (TC)! None of my friends are really into it and just kind of roll their eyes when I start to talk about the show (although they'll be the first ones to offer to be guinea pigs for my newest creation!) So it is nice to able to come here and talk about the show, what I saw that excited me, and the reality television aspect of the show.

Thank you all! :0)

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I don't have anyone to talk to about TC except our group also. My daughter started me on it and she doesn,t watch anymore so it's nice to have this group. Fimale should be interesting!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I wanted Jeff, Carla and Fabio. (I love his backstory-money for his mamma) And I think he is as adorable as Stefan is repugnant. That said, Jaime was running real close to the top. Hosea and Leah made my skin crawl with their hanky panky. I really was rooting for Arianne and was disappointed when she left, Fabio became her stand-in. Foodwise, I'm clearly behind Carla. I love her clarity and focused foods. They look wonderful and I would have loved to try her oyster stew.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I read Tom's blog, too, angel. I think it helps a lot in understanding the why's of people getting eliminated. All of the recipes are posted on the Bravo website, too! Thanks for the crawfish tips. I may have to try ordering some and cooking something up.

A Jamie, Carla, Arianne finale would have been fun! I like that combination. I have a feeling Stefan may be the one to be though. It may depend on the final challenge, I suppose.

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Stefan may be the one to beat. I sure wish you could edit your comments in these groups!

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Angelinaw, want to thank you for the welcome but I've been here all along...LOL...I needed that laugh...:)

RE: Season 5 - finale time
I'm glad I made you laugh... we all need some laughter in our lives.

Frankieanne, you're right - Stefan could be tough to beat if he doesn'tlet his ego get in the way and doesn't think he can skate by. The preview said a three course meal, but it didn't give any other clues as to what other rules there would be. My guess is that there won't be any guidelines given, so the chef's can play up to their strengths. I was kind of hoping for another Cajun challenge, but that probably won't happen.

I am anxiously waiting for the finale...

I'll probably be out of touch most of this weekend. I am having my daughter and her BF over for dinner tonight so I can make sure she gets at least one meal this week that will not be full of useless starch or fast food. (She is pregnant) This weekend is Mardi Gras (the big parade) and I hope to have one wall completely done in my kitchen (and maybe a new back door as well). And of course, it is freezing cold (high of 20's) for us to get up at 6:00 and go downtown to watch the Mardi Gras parade. (I love thermal underwear!)

RE: Season 5 - finale time
Angelina, have a great weekend. We will see how the finale works out next Wed.
