I have tried making this soup with fresh clams, and although it's very good, I still prefer the canned. It all boils down to quantity...when I use fresh clams, I spend more money and get less clams in my soup BUT, when I go with my little canned friends, I can load my soup up with lots and lots of clams for lots less money, leaving my greedy little belly and stingy little wallet very happy!
