Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the chopped strawberries, lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar.
  • Lightly mash the strawberry mixture with a fork until juicy.
  • Cover and place in fridge.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  • Cut in butter and shortening, then mix in half-and-half.
  • Drop by large spoonfuls onto a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream and 1/2 cup sugar with a hand mixer until it forms peaks.
  • Take a shortcake and slice it in half.
  • Add a layer of strawberries, then a layer of whipped cream.
  • Top with other half of shortcake, another layer of strawberries and end with a dollop of whipped cream.
