Strawberry Shortcake

- 8 oz. strawberries, chopped shopping list
- 1 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar shopping list
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 4 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 2 tablespoons butter shopping list
- 2 tablespoons shortening shopping list
- 3/4 cup half and half shopping list
- 1 pint (2 cups) heavy whipping cream shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- In a large bowl, mix together the chopped strawberries, lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar.
- Lightly mash the strawberry mixture with a fork until juicy.
- Cover and place in fridge.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
- Cut in butter and shortening, then mix in half-and-half.
- Drop by large spoonfuls onto a baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream and 1/2 cup sugar with a hand mixer until it forms peaks.
- Take a shortcake and slice it in half.
- Add a layer of strawberries, then a layer of whipped cream.
- Top with other half of shortcake, another layer of strawberries and end with a dollop of whipped cream.
