Chocolate cake, who doesn't like it? I like making recipes from scratch and that way I am guaranteed there are no artificial ingredients. I hope you like this cake.

  • CAKE:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1-3/4 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • *I use 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup milk.
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1-1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • FROSTING:
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 3 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions
  1. CAKE:
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Grease and flour a 13 x 9 inch oblong pan.
  4. Measure all cake ingredients into a large mixing bowl.
  5. Mix 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly.
  6. Beat 3 minutes at high speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
  7. Pour into pan and bake 40 to 45 minutes.
  8. FROSTING:
  9. Mix butter and chocolate thoroughly.
  10. Blend in sugar.
  11. Stir in sour cream and vanilla.
  12. Beat until smooth.
