German Pancake With Sweet Apple Filling

- Filling shopping list
- 1/4 cup of Melted butter shopping list
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar shopping list
- 1 1/2 Tbs cornstarch shopping list
- 1/2 cup of milk shopping list
- 4 apples (Granny Smith and or honey Crisp) cubed shopping list
- Batter shopping list
- 5 Large eggs (at room temperature) shopping list
- 1 cup of milk (at room temperature) shopping list
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt shopping list
- Garnish shopping list
- juice of half a lemon shopping list
- icing sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Mix the sauce for the Filling in a pan over medium heat until thickened
- Add in the cubed apple
- Stir and heat for 5-10 minutes on low to medium heat
- Put two pans (I use a 10 inch cast iron skillet and a ceramic pie plate) in the oven and pre heat them to 450 degrees
- Mix in a bowl the batter ingredients until smooth
- Take pans out of the oven and coat each with 2 tbs of butter
- Split the batter between the two pans and place in the 450 degree oven
- Bake for 12 minutes (you will see that the pancakes grow into a tall odd shape which is fine
- Open door and turn the pans for even heat
- (Start to re-heat the filling on the stovetop)
- bake for 5 more minutes till edges are golden brouwn and center just starting to brown
- Pull out of oven and sprinkle with Lemon Juice
- Transfer to serving plates
- Add the Apple filling
- Sprinkle with Icing Sugar
- Devour and ask for more
