Ingredients

  • Take one package of Bridge ford Parker House Rolls-either white or wheat-and THAW. shopping list
  • (This will take several hours and you can do it in the fridge overnight so it will be ready when you come home and start making them for dinner.) shopping list
  • Once the bread rolls are thawed, I took each roll and increased the size of each by putting 2 rolls together. shopping list
  • I took some flour-(a mixure of 50% all-purpose and 100% whole wheat flours) and then rolled each roll in the flour and then worked it in on a floured surface. shopping list
  • Set each roll on a greased baking sheet or silicone baking sheet and then rise until double in size. shopping list
  • Once doubled then punch down and form into a large, flat circle. shopping list
  • FILLING: shopping list
  • The filling is a mixture of Trader Joe’s Low Fat Marinara and 1 pound of cooked mild Italian Sausage, drained. shopping list
  • (You can make up whatever Marinara you like to use for this, but I like the flavor of this brand and the fat content is much lower than most.) shopping list
  • Put a few spoons of the marinara with sausage filling on each dough round, and then top with some of SARGENTO’S 4 CHEESE ITALIAN BLEND LOW FAT CHEESE THAT IS SHREDDED. shopping list
  • Add a few sprinkles of this. (I like a much bigger calzone but I was working with what I had and wanted to make more than 4 of them here. My usual Calzone would combine 4 rolls worth-2 to make each side of the Calzone. shopping list
  • Be careful not to overfill the calzone because it will be very difficult to pinch the edges of the thing all the way around! shopping list
  • Put the Calzones on the sheet and make sure they are not too close together and sprinkle your favorite Italian seasoning on the top. (I will have to look at who makes the one I used in my spice drawer, but it is awesome and organic with no sugar or salt, which I like! I think it is SpiceLY) shopping list
  • Bake in a 400 degree oven until done about 35-45 minutes or until browned. shopping list
  • Happy cooking and eating! shopping list
  • You can make several batches of these and then freeze them in very airtight freezer bags and they reheat really well in the microwave. shopping list
  • Enjoy! shopping list
