How to make it

  • Brown ground beef. Drain when done.
  • Add all the other ingredients, minus chili packets to pot.
  • Follow directions on chili packets to mix with water, add to pot.
  • Re-add ground beef.
  • Simmer on low for several hours (the longer the better). Stir occassionally to prevent scorching on the bottom.
  • Note: When you open and empty the cans to the pot, adding a little bit of water to the empty can to rinse them out helps (fill one can about half full of water swirl and pour to the next empty can, swirl around and repeat until all cans are clean on the inside. Add to the pot - adds a lot of flavor)
  • Note: Ground beef can be substituted with pork, turkey or any other meat. Cubed steak or diced pot roast is delicious as well. Meat substitutes can work for any vegetarians.
  • Note: You can add cayanne powder to increase the heat if the mild or hot chili packets aren't enough.
