How to make it

  • Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon
  • Set aside
  • Cream together the shortening, brown sugar, and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer at medium speed
  • Add the egg
  • Beat well
  • Gradually stir in the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture
  • Blend well
  • Stir in the oats
  • Drop the mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls, about 3 inches apart, onto the prepared cookie sheets
  • Bake in a preheated 325 F oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown
  • Remove from the baking sheets
  • Cool on wire racks
