How to make it

  • Layer dry noodles in a 9"x13" pan.
  • Brown ground beef with onions and other herbs as desired. (I add garlic, basil, oregano, a pinch of thyme and anything else that looks or smells good.) I use really lean ground beef so I don't drain, but you might need to drain the ground beef.
  • Layer beef mixture over noodles.
  • Mix tomato sauce, water, optional salt, and fennel seeds, If desired you can add additional minced garlic or oregano at this stage.
  • Pour tomato sauce mixture over beef and noodles. Bake at 350 degrees F., covered, for about 45 to 50 minutes.
  • Remove cover and add mozzarella cheese.
  • Return to oven for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is slightly browned.
