How to make it

  • ~ Secretariat...Nicknamed..."Big Red" ~
  • This beauty came about by a coin toss, and on March 30 1970 entered this world as a 'CHAMPION'
  • Chestnut Red,three white stocking feet, and a star blaze...pretty appropriate I think, considering the star that he became.
  • Sired by 'Bold Ruler' and Foaled by 'Something Royal'...and he was ROYALTY and RULED the race track.
  • Growing to stand an impressive 16 hands-2 inches tall, and weighing in at 1,175 pounds of...PURE...AWESOME!
  • Bred for speed and stamina...he lived up to that...and...THEN SOME!
  • As a two year old he lost his first race, but after that won 5 in a row.He won at Belmont, but was disqualified, for bearing and interfering with 'Stop The Music'...but,avenged that loss next time beating 'Stop The Music' by 8 lengths.
  • "Big Red" did not like to lose, and he proved that over and over again winning 16 out of 21 times on dirt and grass.Even up to his last race he was what they call...'Ridden Out' which means, that he won, without the jockey asking for his maximum effort...the horse was born to...RUN!
  • He is a LEGEND...proving that he had...HEART!!
  • So much so that at his death on October 4 1989 his heart was shown to be 2 1/2 times larger then the average horse.
  • My Dad and Grandad told me one time..."You know Sis,if you have a good horse and he loves you,he will run for you until his heart bursts" and I believe that 'Secretariat'...'Big Red' that...WONDER of WINNING,would do just that,if asked.
  • Can you not just imagine looking into those big brown eyes, placing your hand on that chestnut chest and just stand there in...AWE!!
  • WHAT A HORSE...Not Once...Not Twice...but...TRIPLE THE WINNER!!!
