Mike's Spaghetti Sauce
From Rennai 13 years agoIngredients
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil shopping list
- 2 to 4 cloves of garlic shopping list
- 1 med yellow onion shopping list
- 1 package sliced mushrooms shopping list
- 2 T basil shopping list
- 2 T oregano shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
- 1 lb ground beef (90/10 or leaner) shopping list
- 1 large (32 oz) can of crushed tomatoes shopping list
- 2 med (14.5 oz) cans of diced tomatoes, Italian style shopping list
- 1 small (6 oz) can of tomato paste shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Chop onions and mince garlic. In a large pot, cook the onion and garlic over medium heat in olive oil for about 2-3 minutes until onions start to turn translucent. Add mushrooms and spices to the pot and cook till onions are almost but not quite clear.
- 2. Add ground beef to the pot. Because you bought meat with a low fat content you don’t drain the grease, which helps retain the flavor from the spices. Break up and cook beef until you no longer see pink.
- 3. When the beef is thoroughly cooked, add the cans of crushed and diced tomatoes to the pot. Bring to a simmer, cover, and turn the heat down to low for 15 minutes.
- 4. Taste your sauce and add what ever spices that are needed for it to taste right to you. From here you can either boil your pasta and eat it right away, or you can let the pot simmer for up to 6 hours. If possible, let it simmer so that the spices and tomatoes meld completely.
