How to make it

  • Soak potatoes at least 1/2 hour, then saute in butter or oil until cooked 3/4th of the way through, set aside.
  • Mix all ingredients, except for the fried onions. Put into a deep casserole dish. Top with fried onions. Bake 1 hour until golden on top. Can be made a couple of days ahead of time, except do not bake ahead of time. Can also be frozen.
