How to make it

  • Whisk flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg,
  • Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs
  • Whisk eggs with water, add to flour mixture
  • Stir together
  • Turn into floured surface and knead until smooth
  • Divide into 12 balls and let rest for 10 minutes
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a round shape
  • Deep fry at 375 degrees, until puffed and golden (1-2 minutes per side)
