Apple Sauce Cake

1944's Everyday Food. My mom would make me applesauce cake when I was young, because I didn't like fruit cake and it was the base of her fruit cake. So one loaf would be my plain applesauce cake and the rest she'd ruin by adding the dried fruit. Read more -- Or at least that is my memory of it! See less
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1 cup unsweetened thick apple sauce shopping list
- 1 tsp soda shopping list
- 1 cup chopped raisins shopping list
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 2 1/2 cup soft-wheat flour shopping list
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 tsp cloves shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
How to make it
- Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten egg. Add apple sauce. Sift dry ingredients. Mix raisins with 1/2 cup flour. Add remaining ingredients and beat until smooth. Bake in a loaf pan at 325 for 1 hour.
