This traditional Mexican treat can be found in any Hispanic bakery- if you live in a border state- anywhere really. They were my favorite as a child- I've been looking for a good recipe for years - I think this one is the winner. Read more Really simple, really quick, incredibly delicious. Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 2 1/4 cups flour shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- several drops of red food dye shopping list
How to make it
- Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg & mix well.
- Combine flour, baking powder, & salt - then add to creamed mixture & mix well.
- Add food coloring & mix well. Form dough into balls and dip in sugar.
- Flatten balls to form [flat- round] cookies. Place on cookie sheet.
- Bake for 12 -15 minutes @ 350°. * Make sure cookies are still a bit soft when you take them out- DON'T OVERCOOK THESE!
- Remove, let cool a bit and enjoy!
