How to make it

  • Sift and measure the 9 cups of all purpose flour. Sift again with the 4 1/2 teaspoons salt.

  • Cut or Rub in, until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal, the 3 cups shortening.

  • Store in tightly covered container on pantry shelf. Makes 9 one crust pies or 4 two crust pies and one pastry shell.

  • TO MAKE PASTRY FROM MIX: Measure out 1 1/2 cups Pastry Mix. Add 3-4 Tablespoons water and mix lightly. Roll out and bake as for plain pastry.
