How to make it

  • Cook lasagna noodles according to directions on box, rinse in cold water, drain and set aside. Brown hamburger meat, pork sausage and onion. Add garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Add 2/3 of the spaghetti sauce to the hamburger-sausage mixture and simmer about 15 minutes.
  • Mix cottage cheese, mozarella cheese and 1/2 cup parmesan cheese together in a large bowl (I generally add a little garlic powder and some pepper to the cheese mixture). Set cheese mixture aside.
  • Pour about a Tablespoon of the spaghetti sauce from the jar into the bottom of a large baking pan and spread to cover the bottom well(this will prevent the noodles from sticking to the bottom of the pan without use of added oils.) Cover the sauce with a layer of the lasagna noodles, spread meat mixture evenly over the lasagna noodles and then top with another layer of lasagna noodles. Cover this layer with the cheese mixture and then add another layer of noodles. Pour remaining spaghetti sauce over the top lasagna noodle layer and make sure to cover well, preventing the noodles from drying out. Sprinkle a liberal amount of parmesan cheese on top of the spaghetti sauce.
  • Bake uncovered on middle oven rack at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes or until sauce around edges is bubbling and cheese is melted. Remove from oven, let stand about 10 minutes, cut into squares and serve with green salad and warm garlic bread or rolls.
