Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cut the bread into diagonal half slices See Photo
  • Mix milk, eggs, cinnamon sugar with a whisk until frothy See Photo
  • Put a tablespoon of butter and heat on medium heat. Do not use high heat as it will burn the butter. You have to be patient and let the butter melt very slowly. About 3-5 minutes See Photo
  • Take one slice of bread at a time and cover it in the egg mixture. Use tongs to handle the bread. You can use your hands but that will only mess up your hands and get the egg mixture all over the place. Let it soak well. We used another flat square Pyrex dish to soak the bread as the round bowl made it a bit difficult to soak the edges of the bread. See Photo
  • Depending on the size of your pan, place each slice of bread on the pan. We placed all 4 pieces in one large pan to make it easier. See Photo
  • Let it cook on medium heat for 5 minutes. Turn it over after 5 minutes and cook the other side for another 4 minutes. Don't over cook. The second side will need 4 minutes to cook (as opposed to 5 minites for the first side) since the first side has heated it through. See Photo
  • Remove from heat. Place on plate and pour two strips of syrup on your homemade French toast to give it some added panache. We used Sri Lankan Kithul treacle for the syrup which is absolutely fantastic and all natural.
