My Oma's (Grandmother) recipe of a fruit cookie that has been passed down through our family. An annual treat.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup candied fruit
  • 1/2 cup candied cherries
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup broken walnuts

Directions
  1. Cream together shortening and brown sugar.
  2. Add egg and water; beat well.
  3. Sift together dry ingredients.
  4. Stir into creamed mixture.
  5. Stir in fruits, raisins & walnuts.
  6. Drop from teaspoon 2-inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake at 375^F degree oven 8 to 10 minutes.
