Ingredients

How to make it

  • Heat of the grill...
  • Steam the potatoes until tender, then set on a cutting board to cool as you are cooking the green beans to a bright green and tender, rinse beans in cold water to cool off, drain and place in a large round container.
  • Cut the potatoes in halves,or,quarters and add to the container with the green beans, stirring in the chives.
  • In the mean time combine the sour cream, red wine vinegar, horseradish,Worcestershire, and half of the grounded pepper in a smaller container and stir in the olive oil.
  • Sprinkle both sides of the sirloin steak with sea salt and the remaining half of the grounded pepper.
  • Test the heat and set the steaks to the fire.About 4 minutes on each side and the sirloin will come out rare.
  • You will be grilling the corn, turning and testing occasionally until it is marked and done.
  • Transfer the sirloin to the board and allow it to rest for about five minutes, then when the corn is cool enough to handle, cut the kernels from the ear, slice the steak crosswise.
  • Add the steak to any accumulated juice and the corn kernels in the container with the potatoes and green beans, dress down with the horseradish dressing.
  • One Pilsner would be good with this, but be sure it is good and cold.
  • ~ FREEDOM FLIES IN YOUR HEART LIKE AN EAGLE ~
  • Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,
  • They sit in the corner and wait.
  • Two souvenirs of the Second World War
  • That have witnessed the time and the hate.
  • Mute witness to a time of much trouble
  • Where kill or be killed was the law.
  • Were these implements used with high honor?
  • What was the glory they saw?
  • Many times I've wanted to ask them...
  • And now that we're here, all alone,
  • Relics all three of that long ago war. . .
  • Where has freedom gone?
  • Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.
  • Let it soar with the winds high above
  • Among the Spirits of soldiers now sleeping.
  • Guard with care and with love.
  • I salute my old friends in the corner.
  • I agree with all they have said . . .
  • And if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,
  • I'll be free, or by God, I'll be dead!
  • Audie Murphy, 1968
  • ~ ALONE AND FAR REMOVED ~
  • Alone and far removed from earthly care
  • The noble ruins of men lie buried here.
  • You were strong men, good men
  • Endowed with youth and much the will to live.
  • I hear no protest from the mute lips of the dead.
  • They rest: there is no more to give.
  • So long my comrades,
  • Sleep ye where you fell upon the field.
  • But tread softly please
  • March O'er my heart with ease.
  • March on and on,
  • But to God alone we kneel.
  • Audie Murphy, late 1940's
  • ~ THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO ~
  • Oh, gather 'round me, comrades; and
  • listen while I speak
  • Of a war, a war, a war where hell is
  • six feet deep.
  • Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh
  • how can a soldier sleep?
  • The going's slow on Anzio. And hell is
  • six feet deep.
  • Praise be to God for this captured sod that
  • rich with blood does seep.
  • With yours and mine, like butchered
  • swine's; and hell is six feet deep.
  • That death awaits there's no debate;
  • no triumph will we reap.
  • The crosses grow on Anzio, where hell is
  • six feet deep.
  • Audie Murphy, 1948
  • Before showing his heroism in battle,he showed it as a brother and son when left to help fend for his Mother and siblings, working the cotton field, taking what ever odd job he could get at such a young age,and hunting with a .22 rifle to put food on the table.
  • Born in Texas, this gentle eyed giant of 5'5"stood tall in the eyes of his family and country that he served.
  • Don't let those boyish good looks and shy Texas drawl fool ya'.
  • This kid could fight and fight he did!
  • Among his many 33 awards and not quite twenty one years of age would also be layed upon him the Congressional Medal of Honor.
  • He was a son,brother,husband,father,actor,songwriter,poet,businessman,horsebreeder...and Soldier!
  • His postwar life wasn't all roses, however. He suffered from what is now called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD but was then called "combat fatigue", and was known to have trouble sleeping, waking at times screaming in the night, and slept with a loaded .45 automatic nearby.
  • He campaigned vigorously for the government to spend more time and money on taking care of returning Vietnam War veterans, as he most likely knew what some of them were going through.
  • How could a young man go through that war, come home and batttle his own personal bouts of war...then die as a passenger in a small twin engine Aero aircraft flying through low visibility, smashing into a mountain in Virginia on May 28,1971
  • He had so much more living to do...but then...No one is really dead and gone until they are forgotten, and this little giant will remain in the memory of those who had the greatest privilege of having him in their mists...his family,friends...and now resting forever within his many "Brothers In Arms"
  • Dying very close to being 46 years of age,now in section 46,headstone number 46-366-11 in that hallowed place called Arlington National Cemetery. It is the cemetery's second most-visited grave site.
  • The headstones of Medal of Honor recipients buried at Arlington National Cemetery are normally decorated in gold leaf. Murphy previously requested that his stone remain plain and inconspicuous, like that of an ordinary soldier
  • When I read of that...I thought to myself...Ordinary?
  • Anyone that stands on that wall and protects, allowing many to go to there pillow at night...breathe free air...and have sweet slumber...wake with the delight of mornings light...safe,sound,because of anothers plight for your rights in the plan of this land...They are NOT ORDINARY! They are...EXTRAORDINARY!
  • So next time you think about screaming that you broke a nail,or you got your car bumped in the parking lot...remember who and what is important and just say...THANK-YOU...for where you are!
