Peanut Baklava

- for the Baklava shopping list
- 400 grams Filo/Phyllo shopping list
- 1.5 cups crushed not powdered raw peanuts shopping list
- sprinkle of nutmeg powder shopping list
- 1/2 cup melted really hot Crisco or butter shopping list
- for the syrup: shopping list
- 1 cup water shopping list
- 2 cups sugar shopping list
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice shopping list
How to make it
- To prepare the syrup boil the water and then drop the sugar and keep stirring. As soon as the mixture boils and rises again drop the lemon and stir and leave for three minutes before you turn off and set aside.
- Crush the peanuts with a mortar and pestle. Drop the nutmeg powder to the mixture and mix well.
- Divide your Filo sheets into rectangles around 15-17 cm wide and 20 cm tall. turn your Filo dough as if it were a rhombus and put the filling close to one corner. Fold the mixture into a loose formed cigarette with secured ends.
- Heat your oven to 200C up and down. As soon as your oven has hit that temperature. Melt your Crisco/Butter and make sure its really hot. You can make sure by dropping some of the mixture over the Filo cigarettes and it should make a sizzling sound. Be generous with the Crisco.
- The cigarettes should take between 8 to 12 minutes in the oven. Remove when golden on all sides. Please stack your cigarettes in one line not above each other leaving a cm between each cigarette from all four ends.
- When they are done drop the hot cigarettes into the syrup.
- Pick up and serve.
- Notes:
- Please wrap your cigarettes loosely and if they are hot the syrup should be cold and the opposite is true!
