How to make it

  • 1. Chop pitted dates fine. If too sticky or dry use orange juice called for to loosen or bring together.
  • 2. Mix chopped dates, walnuts, and orange zest so it forms a ball.
  • 3. Roll about a Tablespoon of date mixture into a 1" long roll about 1/3" wide.
  • 4. Lay out a wonton wrapper with a point up (like a diamond).
  • 4. Place the date mixture log up towards the point and roll.
  • 5. Moisten points of wonton where wonton to wonton contact to seal together.
  • 6. When rolled twist ends to look like a wrapped candy.
  • 7. Cover to prevent drying.
  • 8. Heat oil to about 375 Degrees in deep pot.
  • 9. Fry wontons about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  • 10. Drain on paper towels.
  • 11. When completely cool and just before serving dust with powder sugar.
  • Note: to store wait till completely cooled and store in a well sealed container in a cool place. dust with powder sugar before serving.
