How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking up the meat into small pieces. Season with Italian seasoning, pepper, garlic powder and a small amount of salt. When done, drain off the fat and return meat to the skillet.
  • Add the onion, zuchinni and mushrooms and cook until soft. Season with red pepper flakes.
  • Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
  • When vegetables are soft, add the pasta and pasta sauce; mix to combine.
  • Place about half of the pasta mixture in a 9 X 13-inch pan. Layer the cottage cheese and Parmesan cheese, and then cover with the remaining pasta mixture.
  • Top with mozzarella cheese and more Parmesan, if desired.
  • Pop in the oven for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the dish is heated through.
  • Let rest about 10 minutes before serving.
  • Round out the meal with a green salad.
