Ingredients
  • 200g flour
  • 150g Whole Wheat flour
  • 25g Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 240ml buttermilk
  • 30g soft butter
  • Little extra whole wheat flour for dusting.

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 190c
  2. Mix all ingredients together until it forms a dough, the good ole Irish way is to use your hands!! But you can use a mixer if you wish.
  3. Dust hands with some flour and remove the dough from the bowl, no need to knead(sp) the bread just dust it slightly and shape the dough into a round ball and place on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper or place the dough into a bread tin. Lightly dust the top of the bread and place an X in the middle of the bread with a knife.
  4. Place in the middle of the preheated over for 35-40 mins. Remove from the oven place on a wired tray (or wrap in a tea towel, making sure the bread is raised off the table, place on the wired tray or lean it up against something)
  5. Allow to cool then serve with butter, jam, chesse or whatever takes your fancy.. Enjoy :)
