Curried  Mince Roly Poly Recipe
A different way to serve mince. Looks like a lot of ingredients but the filling and sauce share quite a few. I do the chopping in a mini food processor

Ingredients
  • Filling:
  • 15 ml oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 15 ml medium curry powder
  • 5 ml turmeric
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, chopped
  • 15 ml vinegar
  • 15 ml chutney
  • 500 g lean beef mince
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pastry:
  • 500 ml flour
  • 125 g butter or margarine
  • 5 ml salt
  • 100 – 125 ml ice cold water
  • Sauce:
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 15 ml oil
  • 5 ml medium curry powder
  • 5 ml turmeric
  • 250 ml beef stock
  • 15 ml chutney
  • 10 ml lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

Directions
  1. Filling
  2. Sauté onion and garlic in oil until soft. Add curry powder and sauté 2 minutes.
  3. Add mince and stir until well mixed with curry mixture. Add remaining
  4. Ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes. The mixture must be dry. Cool.
  5. Pastry
  6. Sift dry ingredients. Rub in butter then add enough water to make stiff dough.
  7. Chill for 30 minutes. Roll out to about 10 mm thick into a rectangle. Spread with the filling the roll up like a Swiss Roll. Seal edges with beaten egg. Place in a greased oven proof serving dish and brush the top with beaten egg.
  8. Sauté onion, apple, carrot and garlic in oil. Add curry powder and turmeric and fry 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 10 minutes. Pour around the roll in serving dish and bake for 30 – 40 minutes at 180o C.
