Here is another good sauce that I had eaten,while we were in the service,we did'nt have much to do back then except,have a few friends together,cook out,play cards,sure is neat going though all the forgotten recipes. This is good on hamburgers too.

Ingredients
  • All this can be place in a gallon jar,after made.
  • Take 9 to 10 quarts of apples,either green or ripe,peel,sliced
  • Place them in a large cooking pot
  • Cover them to the top with brown vingar
  • Add 1 can tomato puree
  • 1 sliced onion
  • 2 Tablespoons ground spice
  • 2 Tablespoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 Tablespoon powdered coffee
  • Bring all to a boil,watch carefully,
  • Slowly boil for 2 hours,as the liquid starts to evaporate,add 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water to replace
  • Stir frequently,this will burn easily
  • Remove and run though a food mill
  • Add about 12 Cups of this puree to you gallon jar
  • Add:
  • 2Tablespoons of powdered garlic
  • 6 Tablespoons salt
  • 2 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 Tablespoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 can frozen orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon spearmint flavoring
  • Place all in jar with the puree,fill with vinegar to fill the gallon jar--just--you will need very little,the sauce should be nearly as thick ad catsup
  • Shake well
