Another from one of my recipe books. I collect them when the library has them for sale.

Ingredients
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. butter
  • 3 eggs well beaten
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. soda----dissolve in buttermilk
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2/3 c. dates
  • 2/3 c. nuts
  • 1 c. strawberry jam
  • pinch of salt

Directions
  1. Cream butter, sugar-----add eggs.
  2. Sift spices and flour, add alternately with buttermilk.
  3. Fold in by hand dates, nuts and jam.
  4. Bake in 325 degree to 350 degree oven for about an hour.
  5. No icing required.
  6. =====================================================
  7. Note: It seems that we have another recipe without any baking pan. I guess use your own judgment.
