Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups slivered almonds, finely chopped
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 TBS water
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbs shortening

Directions
  1. Beat butter at medium speed of an electric mixer until creamy
  2. Gradually add sugar; beating well
  3. Add eggs one at a time beating after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla
  5. Combine 1 cup flour and baking powder; add to butter mixture
  6. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a stiff dough.
  7. Stir in almonds.
  8. Lightly floured hands, and divide dough in half.
  9. Shae each portion into a 9 inch log and a place 4 inches apart on a lightly greasedcookie sheet.
  10. Combine egg yolk and water; brush each log with egg mixture
  11. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes or until lightly browned; remove to wire racks and let cool completely.
  12. Using a serrated knife, carefully cut each log crosswise into 1/2 nch slices.
  13. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  14. Bake 300 degrees for 10 minutes on each side
  15. Remove to wire racks and let cool cmopletely.
  16. Melt chocolate and sortening in a heay saucepan over low heat,stirring until mixture is smooth.
  17. drizzle over top of biscottil
  18. Let cool completely.
