How to make it

  • dredge beef in flour
  • melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat
  • brown beef on all sides
  • add the stock, ale & salt
  • bring to a boil
  • reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes
  • add marjoram, mint & spinach
  • bring to a boil again then reduce heat
  • add asparagus and simmer until tender- about 4-5 minutes
  • stir in sugar & season as needed
  • serve hot
