Phillys Fish Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 500-600g white fish
  • handful of frozen prawns
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • garlic
  • 3/4 - 1 pint milk
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 brocoli head
  • hand full sweet corn or frozen mixed veg
  • 2 large potatoes
  • extra milk /mayonese/ phildelphia/ butter to add to mashed potatos
  • handful grated cheese
  • bread crumbs

Directions
  1. Pre-cook potatoes to be mashed later. (I boil them in water in the microwave). Also pre-cook the brocoli.
  2. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees.
  3. Meanwhile, in a large pan on the hob, fry the onions and garlic.
  4. Then add the milk to the onion pan and bring to the boil.
  5. Add the bay leaves, S+P and the fish.
  6. Boil until the fish is cooked (when it is white through).
  7. Strain the liquid- reserving it all (we will use it for the sauce). Don't wash the pan yet!
  8. Place fish/onion into a large oven proof dish.
  9. Heat some butter in the empty/dirty pan. Add a table spoon of flour. Add the boiled milk slowly, stir continuosly until thickened- to make a white sauce.
  10. Add the prawns, cooked brocoli and any other veg into the ovenproof dish. Pour the white sauce over it.
  11. Once the potatoes are soft, drain the water and mash- adding a drop of milk and I like to add a spoon of mayonese or Philedelphia instead of butter.
  12. Spread the mash over the dish.
  13. Sprinkle grated cheese and breadcrumbs over the top.
  14. Bake for 30mins in the oven or until the toppping goes crunchy.
