How to make it

  • Combine dates, 1 1/2 cups water and sugar in saucepan.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer 5 - 8 minutes or until mixture is thickened, stirring frequently.
  • Remove from heat, stir in walnuts.
  • Cool completely.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Lightly grease 13X9X2 inch pan.
  • Combine flour and baking soda, mix well.
  • Stir in oats onto bottom of prepared pan. Spread with date mixture.
  • Sprinkle reserved oat mixture over top; browned.
  • Serve warm or cool.
