Raisin Bread Pudding

- 6 slices of raisin bread shopping list
- 1 tbsp butter shopping list
- 1 cup of milk plus 1 to 1 1/2 cups milk shopping list
- 1/2 cup of sugar plus approx. 2 tbsps more shopping list
- dash of salt shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 1/4 tsp five spice powder (or apple or pumpkin pie spice-this is a pretty forgiving recipe) shopping list
- For Serving shopping list
- Boiled cider or maple syrup, or equal parts of both shopping list
- whipped cream shopping list
How to make it
- Cube or shred your raisin bread
- Use the butter to generously butter a medium, preferably ceramic, baking dish
- Break the eggs and whisk them with the 1/2 cup of sugar
- Add the salt and the five spice powder and incorporate them with the whisk
- Add the first cup of milk and whisk until the mixture is evenly blended and you do not see streaks of whites and yolks
- Pour the egg mixture onto the bread
- Then pour the additional milk slowly onto the bread, and press on the bread gently with the back of a spoon so that it absorbs the milk, until the bread is almost covered with liquid
- Sprinkle the reserved sugar over the top
- Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes, or until the pudding is pulled away from the sides of the dish and it appears well set
- Serve with the syrup and the whipped cream
- This will make 4 generous helpings
